Michael Carrick Disappointed With Reports That Man United Players are not Trying Under Jose Mourinho

Former Manchester United player and now assistant coach of the club Michael Carrick has refuted allegations that the players are not trying hard enough under manager Jose Mourinho. United's current season has been hit by rumours of players falling out with the manager, something which they believe is affecting their performances.

It has been reported that some senior players are not happy with Mourinho and want a change in the dugout following their poor start to the season, something which Carrick refutes as he believes that everybody is giving their all for the club.

“As a player at United the expectation is there, the scrutiny is there and nowadays every little move you make people jump on it and judge it. The lads are human beings who make mistakes. It's too easy to throw out a player is not trying. It's definitely not the case.”

The 37-year-old also went on to laud Mourinho who he claims has been a fantastic person to learn from.

"He's been fantastic with me. The situation I'm in at the moment, my first job after being a player so there's huge element of learning and trying to soak up as much as I can to improve myself. But at the same time I'm there to do a job and there's a responsibility there. He's been great with me. He's given me plenty of things to do and at the same time he's trying to help me develop," Carrick said as quoted by Sky Sports.

"I couldn't have asked any more of him. I support the manager basically. I get in about 8.15 am to help plan the session for that day and plan ahead for the next game. Whatever the manager needs I'm there to support him. Obviously I offer suggestions when it's right but support is the biggest one, as well as learning."

United are currently placed eighth in the Premier League table with 13 points from eight games, seven points behind the leaders Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool and will next be seen in action against the Blues on Saturday, the 20th of October.
