Ryan Giggs Hails Cristiano Ronaldo, Claims That No One Thought He Would Become a Great Goalscorer

Ryan Giggs has hailed the achievements of former Red Devils, Cristiano Ronaldo and has opened up on the impact of the club in the growth of his career which has seen him become one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.

However, Giggs has now revealed that it was not all smooth sailing for the Portugese in the early days of his Old Trafford career, claiming that one couldn't even think that he would go on to become one of the greatest goalscorers in the game.

"You could never see him being one of the greatest goal scorers ever, you just couldn’t. In his first game against Bolton he delighted the crowd and then it was a little bit of a dip really, a little bit of frustration. When to pass the ball, when not to, too many dribbles, a bit of diving - it was a tough start for him at United," he said to beIN Sports.

However, it was not too long before Ronaldo became the most important player in the United squad and Giggs was by then well aware of the greatness in him.

“All of a sudden everything just clicked and it was a case of just get the ball to Cristiano. Even in a United side with Tevez, Scholes and Rooney he was the one who could make the difference.

He was the one who would get you out of difficult situations and become a goalscorer. He became a match winner and on the biggest stage," Giggs added.

The 34-year-old has gone on to have a glittering career, scoring more than 700 career goals while also winning five Ballon d'Or awards so far.
