Barcelona icon, Lionel Messi has opened up on his club future, suggesting that he has no plans of leaving the Catalan giants atleast for the near future, amid reports that the Argentinian would like to end his career in his native country.
Messi who has spent his entire career with the Spanish giants has come under criticism in the past from some quarters over his decision to remain in Spain as compared to his rival, Cristiano Ronaldo who has now played in three of the top five European leagues.
However, the 32-year-old who is widely considered as the greatest footballer in the history of the sport, has not contemplated the notion of leaving the club as he not only enjoys the football but also life outside the pitch.
"Everyone is looking for their goals and experiences. I never felt the need to leave the best club in the world, which is Barcelona. Here I enjoy training, matches and the city. The dynamic between the club and the city is very complete, and I always felt confident in the club's goals, without needing to look elsewhere," Messi said to World Soccer as quoted by Marca.
The Argentinian reiterated his desire for the club to win trophies in Europe in the past, and the striker desperately wants them to win the Champions League after dominating domestically over the past couple of years.
"Now the important thing is to add one more Champions League to the trophy cabinet, and with that will come the individual prizes. I've always said that individual trophies are not my goals; The Best, the Ballon d'Or, the Golden Boot are not my challenges. And even less the prize for best goal of the year."
A lot of the fortunes of Barcelona depend on the Argentinian and he has found some form in front of goal after missing the start of the season due to injury, with the striker netting six goals in 10 appearances so far.
