Manhunt Begins For Robbers That Killed 8 Police Officers In Kogi State
The Inspector-general of police (IGP) Muhammed Adamu has directed immediate manhunt for the robbers who launched an attacked Isanlu police station in Kogi state, killing eight police officers.
It was reported that on thursday, nine persons, including eight police officers, were killed in Isanlu when a gang of robbers launched an attacked in one of the banks in the town.
It was disclosed that the divisional police officer (DPO) was among the police officers killed in the attack.
Speaking with a source, said the robbers invaded the police station, releasing all the detainees before killing the officers.
They immediately moved to the bank where they allegedly took away an unrevealed sum of money.
In tweet on Friday, the Nigeria police force said the IGP has ordered “a complete manhunt for the perpetrators of the attack”.
IGP Adamu also deployed a team of detectives from the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), the Special Tactical Squad (STS) and Federal-SARS to the state to ensure that they arrest the robbers.
It was learnt the IGP also ordered a review of the security orders in the state to avoid similar occurrence in the future.
“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, NPM, mni has directed a complete manhunt for the perpetrators of the attack on Isanlu Police station and a commercial bank in Yagba East LGA of Kogi State on 4th June, 2020,” the tweet read.
“The IGP while condemning the attack, has deployed a team of crack detectives from the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), the Special Tactical Squad (STS) and Federal-SARS to Kogi State to make sure that the criminals are caught and brought to book.
“The IGP also ordered the AIG of Police in charge of the Zone-8 Police Headquarters, Lokoja, AIG Yunana Babas, mni to asses and review the security arrangement in Kogi State & environ immediately so as to avoid any similar occurrence of such attack in the State.”
The DPO of Isanlu, two policewomen, and four other police officers were killed at the station while other police officers were killed within the bank’s premises.
The other victim, a male civilian, was also hit by a stray bullet.
