Obaseki Hope Dashes as Court Stops Him from Participating in PDP Primary Election.
According to VERYCONCERN, A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has stopped Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, from participating in the People's Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial primary election coming up on June 25, 2020.
The court documents revealed, it stop Obaseki from the primary because he was not a member of PDP when the sales of form begin and that he purchased the nomination form after the sales have closed.
The court also urged PDP not to allow Obaseki to join other aspirants who purchased their nomination form at the stipulated time to take part in the gubernatorial primary coming up in few days. The court order was summoned on June 22nd, 2020.
The lawsuit was filed by Omoregie Ogbeide Ihama while the defendants are eight which includes the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and its Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The court also stops INEC from recognizing Obaseki as an aspirant in the election.
Governor Godwin Obaseki who was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defected to PDP a few days ago after he was disqualified from participating in APC primary election which held yesterday.
He also purchased the PDP nomination form a few days ago after sales of form has already closed. Although the National Working Committee of the party granted him a waiver to enable him to purchase and participate in the primary election.
Some party members and other aspirants are not happy with the committee's decision and decided to drag the matter to court.
The primary election will come up in three days.
The People's Democratic Party has not reacted to the court order at the time of this report.
