BENUE KILLING: POLICE DIFFERS AS GOV ORTOM ALLEGES HERDERS KILLED SEVEN
Benue State Police Command has countered Governor Samuel Ortom's statement seeking the Federal Government to declare "Fulani herdsmen in Benue" as terrorists following the killing of seven villagers and many others badly injured as a result of the alleged invasion by fulani herdsmen.

The command Image maker, DSP Catherine Anene, who reacted to the killing said investigation by police officers on ground reveals that the death of the seven persons were caused by some locals who were fighting them selves over disagreement from benefit of mining proceeds in Chembe community in Ayin, Logo Local Government area of the state.

DSP Anene, said the mining company had paid compensation for the mining sites to the community but members disagreed over the rightful owners of the sites and that the crises in Logo community had nothing to do with farmers and herders as been speculated in the social media but says investigation is still on going.

Governor Samuel Ortom had condemned the killings in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, describing the Chembe killing and previous repeated killing in several Benue Communities in the past months by armed herders as unacceptable despite a subsisting law banning open grazing.

In  a related development, officers and men of Operation Whirl Stroke, also released a statement claiming two armed herders were killed who had invaded the community earlier Friday last week but the military intervention were able to prevent further attacks.

The controversy over what really happened in Chembe community is yet to settle as many are confuse over what really took place while Police differs as against that of Gov Ortom's and the Army statement, the last is yet to be heard.
