Reps take legal action against Akpabio over 60% NDDC contracts allegations

The House of Representatives has resolved to sue the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs,  Godswill Akpabio for criminal perjury and civil defamation.

Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila who disclosed this at the commencement of plenary on Thursday said the decision was sequel to the failure of the Minister to publish names of members of the National Assembly he alleged to have been benefitting 60% of contracts in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The House had on Tuesday given minister
Akpabio a 48-hours ultimatum to publish the names of  members of the 9th National Assembly who got 60% of contracts from NDDC.

The Niger Delta Affairs Minister on Monday while appearing before the House of Representatives Committee on NDDC, investigating financial malfeasance in the Commission, claimed that 60% of NDDC contracts are  gotten by federal legislators.

Akpabio said he has records to show that most of the NDDC contracts were given out to the National Assembly Members insisting that the two Chairmen of both Committees in the National Assembly can attest to the claim.
