INSECURITY: SENATE AGAIN CALLS FOR SERVICE CHIEFS TO STEP ASIDE
The Nigerian Senate has, once more, called for the resignation of the country’s security chiefs as a means to address the growing body count of Nigerian troops at the frontlines.

In the view of the growing numbers of deaths of Nigerian troops combating insurgency and banditry, the Senate Tuesday said there is now a need for a different approach in addressing the country’s security concerns.

Galaxy’s Godfrey Eshiemoghie reports that this resolution by the Senate stems from an additional prayer by Osun East Senator, Francis Fadahunsi, following a motion by Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume on ‘Rising number of casualties among the Nigerian Army and other security agencies.

Senator Ndume had, among other things, called for improved working conditions for officers and men of the Nigerian military at the frontlines, a view equally shared by his fellow senators.

The Senate also urged the federal government to provide modern equipment to enhance the operational capabilities of the armed forces.

It also mandated its security-related committees including that on Interior to receive briefing on the state of affairs of the security agencies.
