I’ve never seen a country so comfortable in failure - Okon Lagos

Nollywood actor, Imeh Bishop, also known as Okon Lagos, has taken to his social media to rant about the state of things in the country.

According to the comic actor, he has never seen any country so comfortable with different vices and challenges, without doing anything to combat the challenges and seek a way of moving forward.

He said, “I have never seen a country so comfortable in failure, so comfortable in staying grounded, so comfortable in being a laughing stock and so determined to remain there.

“I have never seen a country so determined not to make progress. I have never seen a country like Nigeria.”

His outburst is coming at a time when the country is passing through different challenges, ranging from economic, security, infrastructure, etc.

In the midst of the challenges, many celebrities have condemned the attitude of politicians and leaders, who are only bothered about clinching another elective post in the forthcoming general elections, instead of looking for solutions to Nigeria’s numerous challenges.

Full list | Premier League Player of the Season 2021/2022 shortlist

The shortlist for the 2021/22 EA Sports Premier League Player of the Season has been revealed, with Mohamed Salah, Kevin De Bruyne and Son Heung-min among those nominated.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is included in the shortlist too, as are Bukayo Saka and Joao Cancelo. It is not just the traditionally 'big' clubs represented though, with West Ham's Jarrod Bowen and Southampton skipper James Ward-Prowse completing the nominees.

This means there was not place on the list for last year's winner Ruben Dias, however De Bruyne and Salah could pick up their second awards having won in 2019/20 and 2017/18 respectively.

The Liverpool forward has already claimed one personal accolade this season, securing the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year earlier this month.

The winner of the Premier League Player of the Season will be decided by combining a fan poll with votes of the 20 club captains and a panel of 'football experts'.

Supporters have until 18:00 BST on Monday 16 May to cast their ballots. The eight nominees are as follows:

  • Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)
  • Jarrod Bowen (West Ham)
  • Joao Cancelo (Man City)
  • Kevin De Bruyne (Man City)
  • Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)
  • Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
  • Son Heung-min (Tottenham)
  • James Ward-Prowse (Southampton)

I will eliminate bandits as President, Tinubu vows

All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has vowed to eliminate banditry and other forms of insecurity bedeviling the nation if elected President.

He spoke when he addressed APC delegates in Niger at the Government House in Minna on Friday.

He said: “We will not give up on banditry, we will not run away. Bandits will not take over our lands. With me as President, forget bandits. It is now time to change the calendar of bandits, to tell them that there is no business good in killing people no matter how much you make.

“We will eliminate all of them, we will conquer them, we will beat them. That is why I am out to run for President of Nigeria.”

The former Lagos Governor said as far as he is concerned, he is the only one in the presidential race in APC, urging the delegates while pledging not to mislead them.

He stressed: “I am the only one in this race, I don’t know about the others. I am running for the Presidency of Nigeria, I don’t know where the others are running to. I know the road to prosperity, safety, clean environment, development of our nation and infrastructure because I have done it all in Lagos state.

“The others do not know the road, don’t follow them. The only person you should follow is the person who knows the road. Follow me, I know the road and I will not mislead you. They do not have my brains but I do have enough brains.”

Tinubu said those criticising him on his health status and pointing fingers at him are blind and lack knowledge.

“Where are their track records? How many Councillors, local government Chairmen and chairpersons, members of the house of Assemblies, House of Representatives or Senators have they produced? I have produced them.

“Now, they are pointing the wrong fingers at me. I do not worry about them. God will forgive them because they are blind. They have empty brains. They claim I am too old, that I cannot stand without shaking, that my legs are bad, that is why when the Governor asked me to sit, I said I will stand.

“A President’s job is not to climb mountains or do wrestling or carry concrete cement. It is to think and perform with his brain. We are not looking for someone to fight a WWE wrestling match, we are looking for a thinker to provide security for us, we are looking for a doer who will look at economic opportunities and turn them around to prosperity.

“Someone who knows the way to the education of our children, it is not about what we will eat because at this age, we cannot overeat. We must leave our children and grandchildren with enough opportunities and prosperity. We have what it takes, we have the smartness, I have it better than others,” he stated.

Niger Governor Abubakar Sani Bello asked the delegates for their choice of presidential candidate and they all chorused Tinubu is their preferred candidate.
