Argentina and Barcelona icon, Lionel Messi has revealed that he is happy to win the Best FIFA Men's Player award, but is now looking to help his club bounce back from what has been a very disappointing start to the season.
The 32-year-old beat rival, Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk to win the award, which was his first individual honour since being awarded the Ballon d'Or in 2015.
"It has been a long time without winning an individual prize. It is an award that I have for the first time and it is good to have it," Messi said.
The striker also opened up on what has been Barcelona's worst start to a season in the last 25 years and is raring to go in order to get them back to winning ways.
"We've started badly and are struggling to create play and chances. It's just the start, but we have to respond now. There's no more time and we have to improve a lot, we're aware of this. It's a team thing. I have no doubts that we'll improve," he added.
Messi who has struggled with injury is yet to complete a full 90 minutes so far this season, but is expected to start against Villarreal when the Catalan giants are next in action on Tuesday.
