Afenifere leader, Fasoranti endorses Tinubu, moves against Obi’s endorsement

Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the Leader of Afenifere has blessed the presidential flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The Afenifere leader blessed the APC chieftain on Sunday at his (Pa Fasoranti’s) country home.

This came weeks after the acting leader of the group, Ayo Adebanjo, had declared open support for the presidential flagbearer of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

The APC presidential candidate had reached the state to make a presentation of his Action Plan on how to rebuild Nigeria to the Yoruba political and cultural organisation.

The document (80-page Action Plan) which was christened Renewed Hope, was earlier launched in Abuja, the nation’s capital on 21 October by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Finance Minister Dissociates Self From CBN Naira Redesign Plan

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning , Zainab Ahmed, has dissociated herself from the Naira redesign policy fixed for December 15, 2022 by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The Minister, who commented on the policy in response to question raised by Senators during the 2023 budget defence session she had with the Senate Committee on Finance, chaired by Senator Solomon Olamilekan, warned the CBN of consequences that may arise from the policy.

The Senate had told the Finance Minister that barely two days after announcement of the policy by the CBN, the negative effect was already being experienced in the country’s forex.

The Senate noted that just two days after announcement of the policy, value of the Naira to a US dollar has risen from N740 to N788 due to rush in exchange of stashed Naira Notes for foreign currencies, particularly the dollar.

The senators added that the policy may be a well-conceived one, but the timing, going by realities on the ground, is very wrong as the naira may fall to as low as N1,000 to a US dollar before January 31, 2023 fixed for full implementation of the policy.

In her response, Ahmed said she and her Ministry were not aware of the policy but only heard of it from the media.

She said, “Distinguished Senators, we were not consulted at the Ministry of Finance by the CBN on the planned naira redesigning and cannot comment on it as regards merits or otherwise.

“However, as a Nigerian privileged to be at the top of Nigeria’s fiscal management, the policy as rolled out at this time portends serious consequences on value of naira to other foreign currencies.

“I will, however, appeal to this committee to invite the CBN governor for required explanations as regards merits of the planned policy and rightness or otherwise of its implementation now.”

The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, had on Wednesday said that the apex bank would redesign the country’s currency from 200 Naira denomination to N1,000 notes.

He said the action was taken in order to take control of the currency in circulation just as he posited that the bulk of the nation’s currency notes were outside bank vaults and that the CBN would not allow the situation to continue.

The planned policy, he added, was in line with Sections 19, Subsections a and b of the CBN Act 2007, upon which the Management of the CBN sought and obtained the approval of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to redesign, produce, and circulate new series of banknotes at N200, N500, and N1,000 notes.

3 Signs The Relationship Needs To End

Relationships can enrich our lives, at the same time they can also damage them. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or lover, any relationship comes with its share of challenges. And more often than not, putting in the effort to resolve relational issues can and does result in a healthier bond.

But, there are those relationships that, no matter the amount of work and goodwill put into them, will never bring a return on your time or heart investment. Such relationships are toxic.

There are times when you think the relationship you are, it is going nowhere, but you’re still doubting and have zero courage to tell your partner. Well, don’t worry! Here are three signs that will help you decide whether it is time to quit that unhealthy relationship.

More Negative Interactions than Positive Ones

Are you dealing with more negative interactions than positive ones in your relationship? It may sound normal because after we’ve agreed to be in a relationship with someone, we accept the fact that we’ll have to deal with negative interactions.

However, it’s not always easy to manage our emotions and relationships.

Also, every relationship has its good interactions and the other way round. But there are those relationships that seem like every interaction is tense and filled with negative emotions.

Therefore, when communication becomes difficult or impossible, the relationship is beyond fixing. I won’t lie to you, walking away is not a curse and we all deserve a happy life. This can be done with mutual agreement and wish each other best of luck in your chosen path.

Vastly Different Needs

Relationships may become unhealthy due to vastly differences in both partners’ needs. Your woman feels like you are interested in them at all times. She wants to feel like you are listening to her, her struggles, just everything. On the other hand, you don’t want to be with someone needy.

Though, at the beginning of a new friendship or romance, it’s easy to try and compromise with one another, making certain both person’s needs are being met. Over time, some relationships, friends or couples realize their needs are too different.

For instance, in a romantic relationship, someone may need more sex than the other. Another may need to always be in control or have a need to lie. These kinds of clashing needs are a red flag for any relationship.

Flagrant Lack of Respect

A wise man, Don Miguel Ruiz once said “Respect is one of the greatest expressions of love.” Respect is a vital ingredient in any relationship. And when one partner fails to show his or her partner respect, it can hurt the entire relationship.

Study shows that most couples who have issues with their relationship are due to a flagrant lack of respect. We both deserve respect and if one person consistently fails to show his or her partner respect, I think it’s a sign of zero valuation.

Then, you can now ask yourself, why should you be with someone who doesn’t value you. We’re all rare gems to our righteous ones, which we have to be treated like one.

“And under my watch, If I emerge Ebonyi governor in 2023, there will be quality health care and delivery, and also the empowerment of the youth, women and vulnerable people.”

Meanwhile, members of the organisation cutting across the 13 Local Government Areas and 171 wards of the state said their decision to endorse Obi, and Nkwegu was divinely inspired.

Rev. Peter Ezeudo, state coordinator of the group declared the determination of its members to canvass for votes to ensure victory of the LP Presidential candidate and the party’s gubernatorial candidate in Ebonyi. (NAN)

How to Migrate to Canada: 5 Options for Migrating to Canada in 2022

How to Migrate to Canada: 5 Options for Migrating to Canada in 2022

1.  Express Entry Program

Canadian Immigration Program that allows immigrants to live and work in Canada as skilled workers through Express Entry. The new system will allow Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) to pro-actively assess, recruit, and select immigrants who are skilled and/or possessed the relevant qualifications under federal economic immigration programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
  • The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
  • The Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

The Express Entry program will also allow individual provinces and territories to use the system in order to recruit suitable candidates as part of the Provincial Nominee Programs so that labour market demands are met.

Usually, this is one of Canada’s most popular programs, but we haven’t seen an FSW draw since December of 2020, and a CEC since September of 2021. There have also been slower processing times due to the Covid-19 outbreak, but we encourage you to continue to apply as things should be back to normal by mid-year of 2022.

2. Family Class Sponsorship

Family Reunification remains a cornerstone of Canada’s immigration policy. Families in Canada can sponsor their relatives to come to Canada on a permanent basis. In order to qualify to sponsor your relative, you have to be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Also who you can sponsor is: your spouse and children under the age of 22 (there are some exceptions to this). Sponsoring your parents or grandparents is no longer an option at this time. However, you can bring them to Canada under the Super Visa Category.

3.  LMIA Work Visa

Many applicants for Canadian immigration first get Canadian job offers, apply for a work visa and then on that basis, immigrate to Canada. The LMIA involves securing a Canadian job offer, having the Canadian employer apply for an LMIA through Service Canada, and then the applicant applying for the work permit after the LMIA is approved. This is a very involved process but can lead to Canadian permanent residence.

4. The Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)

The PNP route is becoming an increasingly popular way to immigrate to Canada. Canadian provinces such as Alberta, Ontario, British Columbia and others have developed their own immigration programs that often lead to a fast-track process. However, the PNP category generally requires that applicants reside in the respective Provinces after they arrive in Canada. Further, most PNPs require a job offer from a Canadian employer in order to qualify.

5. Canadian Investor Immigration

The Investor Category is designed for high net worth individuals who have owned or managed businesses overseas. By allowing experienced business people to invest in the Canadian economy, they are contributing to Canada’s overall growth and prosperity. There are essentially two investor programs in Canada: The Federal Investor Program and the Quebec program. Both programs are somewhat similar and require that the applicants have a high net worth and make a large investment in an approved investment fund for a 5-year period. Investor immigrants can bring their spouses and children as dependents on their applications.

As of June 2014, applications still in the backlog of the federal Immigrant Investor Program and Entrepreneur Program were terminated. The Quebec Investor Program and Quebec Entrepreneur Program were not affected.

CBN to release re-designed Naira notes December

PRESS REMARKS BY GOVERNOR GODWIN EMEFIELE ON

ISSUANCE OF NEW NAIRA BANKNOTES

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen, and welcome

to this special press briefing of the Bank. We have called

this gathering to inform relevant stakeholders and the

general public of persisting concerns we are facing with

the management of our current series of banknotes, and

currency in circulation, particularly those outside the

banking system in Nigeria.

As you all may be aware, currency management is a

key function of the Central Bank of Nigeria, as enshrined

in Section 2 (b) of the CBN Act 2007. Indeed, the integrity

of a local legal tender, the efficiency of its supply, as well

as its efficacy in the conduct of monetary policy are some

of the hallmarks of a great Central Bank.

In recent times, however, currency management has

faced several daunting challenges that have continued to

grow in scale and sophistication with attendant and

unintended consequences for the integrity of both the CBN

and the country.

 These challenges primarily include:

▪ Significant hoarding of banknotes by members of

the public, with statistics showing that over 80

percent of currency in circulation are outside the

vaults of commercial banks;

▪ Worsening shortage of clean and fit banknotes

with attendant negative perception of the CBN

and increased risk to financial stability;

▪ Increasing ease and risk of counterfeiting

evidenced by several security reports.

Indeed, recent development in photographic

technology and advancements in printing devices have

made counterfeiting relatively easier. In recent years, the

CBN has recorded significantly higher rates of counterfeiting especially at the higher denominations of

N500 and N1,000 banknotes.

Although global best practice is for central banks to

redesign, produce and circulate new local legal tender

every 5–8 years, the Naira has not been redesigned in the

last 20 years.

On the basis of these trends, problems, and facts,

and in line with Sections 19, Subsections a and b of the

CBN Act 2007, the Management of the CBN sought and

obtained the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari to

redesign, produce, and circulate new series of banknotes

at N100, N200, N500, and N1,000 levels.

In line with this approval, we have finalized

arrangements for the new currency to begin circulation

from December 15, 2022.

The new and existing

currencies shall remain legal tender and circulate together until January 31, 2023 when the existing currencies shall

seize to be legal tender.

Accordingly, all Deposit Money Banks currently

holding the existing denominations of the currency may

begin returning these notes back to the CBN effective

immediately. The newly designed currency will be

released to the banks in the order of First-come-Firstserve basis.

Customers of banks are enjoined to begin paying into

their bank accounts the existing currency to enable them

withdraw the new banknotes once circulation begins in

mid-December 2022. All banks are therefore expected to

keep open, their currency processing centers from

Monday to Saturday so as to accommodate all cash that

will be returned by their customers.

For the purpose of this transition from existing to new

notes, bank charges for cash deposits are hereby

suspended with immediate effect. Therefore, DMBs are to

note that no bank customer shall bear any charges for

cash returned/paid into their accounts.

Members of the public are to please note that the

present notes remain legal tender and should not be

rejected as a means of exchange for purchase of goods

and services.

We would like to use this opportunity to reassure the

general public that the CBN would continue to monitor

both the financial system in particular, and the economy in

general, and always act in good faith for the achievement

of the Bank’s objectives and the betterment of the country.

I thank you for listening.

Godwin Emefelie

Governor
