5 Players Who Always Score in Big Games

There are many players who score on a regular basis and make a name for themselves as star strikers. But there are some players who take it upon themselves to give their best performances in the biggest games and against the toughest opposition.

Goals in big games are always tough to come by and the players that have a knack of stepping up to the plate on the biggest stage are always coveted by clubs and countries alike.

Here are five players who always score in big matches.

5. Dele Alli

Dele Alli is one of the players who thrives on big games, having scored in a number of them over the last couple of years. With his recent goal against Chelsea in the Premier League, he has now scored six goals in five games against Tottenham Hotspur’s London rivals.

Add to that goals against the Manchester clubs in the last two years, two goals against Real Madrid, one in the North London Derby and one more against Liverpool, there is no doubt that Alli reserves his best for the biggest games.

4. Didier Drogba

During his time with Chelsea, Didier Drogba made it a habit to score in cup finals, along with his numerous other goals in regular matches against big teams.

The list of goals is endless, starting with the winners in the League Cup final and the FA Cup final in 2007, against Arsenal and Manchester United, respectively. He scored in the final of the League Cup again the following year, this time against Tottenham, making him the first player to score in three finals of the competition.

He also scored two decisive goals against Liverpool in the Champions League semi-finals, to power his team to the competition’s final for the first time ever. He also scored against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final in 2012, to take the game to extra-time, and also scored the decisive penalty in the shootout.

3. Sergio Aguero

Ever since moving to Manchester City nearly a decade ago, Sergio Aguero has made it his business to score a bucket full of goals, and has scored an equally good number against the rest of the big six in the Premier League.

The Argentine has scored 22 goals in the Premier League against the top teams in 36 games and has continued to score against them at an astonishing rate of about 0.61 per game.

Even at 30 years of age, Aguero has not stopped his scoring rate, having scored against Manchester United already this season, though he hasn't been able to register against the other big teams so far this campaign.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo needs no introduction, and nor is there any need to detail the number of big games that the Portuguese has scored in for nearly 15 years.

Starting with the FA Cup final and the European Championships semi-finals in 2004, Ronaldo has scored in a number of crunch games throughout his career. He also scored for Manchester United in the Champions League final in 2008.

In 2011 alone, he scored five goals against Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in various competitions, in just four games for Real Madrid. When it comes to El Clasico, the forward has scored 18 goals in 30 games, at a rate of 0.60 goals per game, cementing his status as one who shows up for all the big matches.

A prime example of him being a big match player was his hat-trick against Spain in the 2018 World Cup.

1. Lionel Messi

Another player that needs no introduction to his goalscoring prowess is Lionel Messi. The Argentine has been in impeccable form ever since he started playing for Barcelona, and has scored numerous goals for both club and country.

Messi’s record for the national side may not be all that great in terms of trophies, but the influence he has had on his club’s success in the recent past is undeniable. In El Clasico alone, Messi has scored 26 goals in 36 games, at a rate 0.68 goals per game, beating even Ronaldo.

He has also scored nearly 30 goals each against Atletico Madrid and Sevilla as well, with the latter being the team he has scored the most against.

My tribal marks gave me hell - Ebun Olaiya

The name Ebun Oloyede might not readily ring a bell but once the pseudonym, Igwe Olaiya is mentioned, then a popular Yoruba actor with tribal marks comes to mind.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, the actor described his tribal marks as a problem for him, adding that he was glad he was not a professional footballer.

“These tribal marks happen to be a problem. As you are looking at me, I do not have the privilege to be a footballer but if I were one, I would not have been able to play professionally because of these tribal marks. They would believe that you had surgery and you would be banned from playing. Our parents thought it was part of our culture but it was an uncivilised act. What they did was not something good.

“They believed that with the marks on my face, people would be able to identify my lineage but they were fooling themselves. How would they have known if my father had sex with his housemaid and she gave birth to me but his wife decided not to make a fuss about it? Yet people would believe that I am from that lineage. Tribal marks are not a DNA, many people might not agree with me but I know what I am talking about. However, there is nothing I can do about it,” he said.

He, however, added that he had grown used to the marks but vowed never to give his children any tribal marks.

He said, “I travel abroad but I cannot go and do surgery to remove them. In fact, when I started travelling abroad, I saw a lot of people with more visible tribal marks than I have. I do not see it as a big deal anymore but I can never put it on my children’s face because of what I went through.”

14-year-old girl stabs father to death

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 14-year-old girl for allegedly stabbing his father to death.

The name of the man and the girl were not mentioned.

The incident happened in the Cable Point area of the Asaba, the state capital.

Trouble started on Thursday evening when the man disciplined her for an offence she committed before he went to sleep.

It was gathered that the girl, who was unhappy with the development, waited until he was asleep before stabbing him to death with a knife.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Aniamaka, confirmed the incident, while expressing regret over the crime rate in the state, especially among youths.

Aniamaka said, “I don’t have information if the deceased is the girl’s father. But all we know for now is that he was related to her. Imagine a small girl stabbing her relative to death.

“The other day, it was killing of a Delta State University student. Where are we heading to?’’

He also appealed to parents to continue monitoring their children, advising ladies to be wary of the men they date.

2019: Katsina youth group mobilises support for Atiku Abubakar

A Katsina-based youth group, Voice of Katsina Youths, on Saturday flagged-off a campaign aimed at mobilising youths to support Atiku Abubakar, the PDP flag bearer in the 2019 presidential race.

Hajia Farida Kabir-Murnai, its National President, who flagged-off the exercise in Zaria, Kaduna State, said that the organisation was convinced that Atiku, if elected, would improve the lot of the nation’s young people.

She claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari, who is from Katsina State, had not given adequate attention to that state.

“Buhari has inaugurated many projects in other parts of the country, especially in the Niger Delta, but his own state, Katsina, is still waiting for his attention,” she said.

The group’s leader called on the youths of Kaduna State to rally round Atiku in the forthcoming presidential election, saying that he (Atiku), had articulated a plan that would make Nigeria a great nation.

Kabir-Murnai regretted that federal government scholarships were becoming increasingly difficult, saying that the situation had affected both students and their parents.

She advised youths to register as members of the movement so as to participate in Nigeria’s quest for greatness, and assured members that everyone would be part of the outfit’s decision making process.

In his speech, Malam Jibril Ahmadu of Pharmacy Department, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, called on the youths to be the representatives of Atiku in their respective areas.

Ahmadu, former President, ABU Students’ Representative Council (SRC), alleged that the Buhari administration had yet to achieve much so far.

Kabir-Murnai said that the organisation was neither political nor profit making.

“Ours is a non-political organisation; we are only mobilising for Atiku because we feel he will be “very nice” to the youths.

“We are convinced that he will give attention to the youths because they constitute a bulk of those he currently works with. Most of his campaign team members and personal aides are youths. We have no doubt that the situation will continue if he is elected,” he said.

On why the organisation was interested in PDP alone, she said that members campaigned for the APC in 2015, but were “forgotten” after victory was achieved.

“In 2015, we campaigned for the APC. We went round all the local governments in Katsina State. The youths were very committed and worked hard to ensure victory, but not much was given to them at the end of the day,” she said.

She regretted that many youths in Katsina State were into drugs and blamed the situation on neglect over the years.

“When a youth is gainfully employed, he will have little or no time to abuse drugs or engage in other social vices.

“I have been persecuted for insisting on improving the plight of the youths. I was even arrested and detained in Katsina. I have been intimidated, criticised and harassed, but I believe I am doing the right thing and that is what motivates me,” she said.

Kabir-Murnai said that the organisation was getting stronger and was no longer limited to Kastina State.

“We are targeting the entire seven states in the North-West Geo-political Zone,” she said.

Why Oyo government reconstructed Yinka Ayefele’s Music House

The Oyo State Government has explained its role in the ongoing reconstruction of the façade of the Music House, owned by the Gospel Musician, Mr. Yinka Ayefele, which was partially demolished in August, this year.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Mr Bolaji Tunji, the government said its intervention was informed by the acknowledgment of contravention of the state building code by the management of the Music House and the personal appeal by Ayefele to the Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.

Tunji also explained that the appeal by various stakeholders to the state government, as well as the preparedness of the owner of the building to rectify the contraventions, which would involve the reduction of the frontage fence line by 1.5m, among others, informed the intervention by the governor.

He added that the parking lots at the tail end of the building close to the entrance of Lagelu Estate had also been reduced by 10.9m to allow visibility.

Similarly, he said that the current frontage of the building was being remodeled to become the back of the building, while the current back of the building had been converted to the frontage.

In line with the recommendation of the joint committee of the state government and the Music House management, he said that an entrance was being reconstructed from the rear of the building to the staircase housing the ram for the exclusive use of Ayefele.

He added, “There is also the recession of the current façade on the frontage of the building by 2.9m. The new fence will be grill fence to ensure visibility, while a staircase will be built at the basement to access the studio.

“The structural elements in the building will also be strengthened, while the two projections at both ends (stair halls) of the current frontage will be retained.”

Tunji said that the clarification by the government, as well as newspaper reports credited to Ayefele on Sunday where he thanked Ajimobi and stated that the governor had “through this magnanimity helped us to right our wrong and we shall be eternally grateful to him” should lay the matter to rest.

He advised those seeking to rubbish the political capital built by the governor in the past seven years through purposeful governance and unprecedented achievements to look elsewhere.

Tunji added, “Following Mr Ayefele’s admittance of breach of procedures in the construction of the building and his subsequent apologies, as well as intervention of well-meaning members of the public, the governor agreed to temper justice with mercy.

“The governor’s approval on the reconciliation of the issue was communicated to Mr Ayefele on October 19, 2018, where His Excellency also approved the assistance on the reconciliation agreed upon on compassionate grounds, as he earlier promised publicly.”

“It is necessary to put it on records that the governor or the state government was not out to witch-hunt the popular musician or anybody, but had acted to safeguard members of the public who daily ply the roads contiguous to the Music House.”

Let Anybody Lead This Country, Not PDP – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has again faulted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly mismanaging the nation’s resources.

He stated this at a meeting with a select group of South East leaders on Friday at the State House in Abuja.

The President believes that although the forthcoming elections should not be a do or die affair, he will never support the opposition party to rule the country.

“Let anybody lead this country but not the PDP,” he was quoted as saying in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu.

President Buhari added, “They (PDP) were so reckless with the resources of the country. The state of infrastructure we inherited was terrible – no roads, the railway was killed and power.

“They lacked conscience because anybody with a conscience will not do what they did. We will report them to Nigerians.”

The President noted that the reported split within the Ohanaeze Igbo socio-cultural group over the purported endorsement of the PDP candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, did not come to him as a surprise.

He said the moment the said resolution was announced, he got calls from some leaders from the region asking him to disregard it as it was without any substance.

“From that moment, I knew that the resolution would not stand, and alas, there it was,” said President Buhari who added, “We have done so much. Given the chance, we will do more. Given every chance, we will tell Nigerians where we were in 2015 and what we have achieved up to now.”

He stressed further, “We will not get tired of speaking about the golden opportunity Nigeria lost during 16 years of the PDP. We earned money, which we didn’t use.

“If you ruin the economy, send your children abroad to get education; won’t they come back? I said it 30 years ago that this is the only country we have. We must stay here and salvage it together.”

The leaders of the delegation, Mr Emeka Ekwuosa and the National Chairman of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Mr Chekwas Okorie, promised to mobilise support for the President in the South East.

They informed him that his re-election would be a national consensus, adding the people of the South East understood the good things he was doing for the country.

What's the Best Time of Day for Sex?

Morning sex vs. evening sex – it’s an age-old conflict, usually with men on one side and women on the other. Men wake up aroused, so morning is prime time. But women often prefer evenings when things have relaxed a bit – after work and chores are done and children are put to bed.  Why does this happen and how can you resolve the issue?

Testosterone difference – Men do have a spike in testosterone between six and nine o’clock in the morning. They naturally like to capitalize on a good morning erection. Unfortunately, women have their lowest amount of daily testosterone in the morning and a minimal increase by evening.

Difference in hormone cycles – Men can experience a daily 25-50% differential in testosterone in the morning, translating to a huge appetite for early sex. For women however, significant changes in testosterone don’t happen daily, but monthly, with the largest increase happening mid-month during ovulation (and that increase is not nearly as dramatic as what men experience).

Cleanliness – Most women have a thing about being clean before sex. So, for her, the thought of morning breath and a night’s worth of sweat and genital odor can squash any desire for wake-up sex. Since men’s sense of smell is typically not as sensitive, these issues may be the last thing on his mind as he feels the warm closeness of his partner’s relaxed body.

To encourage morning sex:

1. Focus on the benefits. Both genders actually perform better at work after morning sex. And after sex, the hormone vasopressin rises, prompting men to feel more emotional attachment.

2. Start slower. Spend time cuddling and lay on the compliments. British gynecologist and researcher Gabrielle Downey says that the single biggest interference with female desire is her body image. So, tell her you love her tousled look and naked face (and body) first thing in the morning.

3. Go to bed earlier. Sleep deprivation lowers testosterone levels in both genders. Getting enough sleep is essential for maintaining maximum hormonal balance and for limiting the stress hormone cortisol, which interferes with desire in both genders.

To encourage evening sex:

1. Watch competitive sports. Research indicates it increases his feelings of aggression and boosts his testosterone. It’s a great deal if she’s a sports fan, too.

2. Build anticipation about being together throughout the day to capitalize on the small increases of testosterone in her body. Sending loving, appreciative texts builds the emotional connection that might be an even more powerful trigger for her a woman than testosterone.

3. Workout together at the end of day. Thirty to forty minutes of intense resistance or endurance exercise increases testosterone levels. Arousal remains easier for thirty minutes after exercise.

Be aware that sometimes the decision about when to have sex can be more about an emotional power struggle than personal preferences. In this case, it’s important to have an honest conversation to get to the root of the problem (and you may want to include a counselor if the problem is ongoing).

Each of you may have a favorite time of day, but pleasing your partner occasionally during their best moment brings fairness and fun. And when that happens, you both win.

'I Was Lost After Leaving Arsenal,' Admits Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger admits he felt lost after leaving Arsenal, but is now ready to give back to the sport he loves the most. The Frenchman called it a day at the end of last season, after serving the Gunners for 22-long years

Now, Wenger is ready to jump back in action but admits he doesn't miss every aspect of the sport.

"I remember [the first day as unemployed] very well," he told beIN Sports, as quoted by Standard Sport.

"I was a bit lost because you have time in front of you, which was never the case before. You always have a problem to sort out and when you have sorted it, there is another one coming straight away. The next game is always a target in your life. It's very difficult, but I took it as a challenge. I don't like to look back, I always look in front and try to think where my next level is."

"I don't feel retired at all, I'm basically a competitor. There are many things I don't miss at all, like all the stuff around the game you have to deal with nowadays. But the day, the competition. The achievement that you can do it together, sharing emotions, sharing competitions, ups and downs - you miss that."

Wenger believes his immense experience in the field is his greatest asset and is ready to give it back to the fraternity.

Arsene Wenger turned down Fulham before club turned to Claudio Ranieri
Arsene Wenger turned down the chance of making a sensational Premier League return with Fulham before the Cottagers appointed Claudio Ranieri.

He added: "The big advantage I ever - in the game 35 years without stopping - is sharing what I know with other people. If you don't do that, life is a bit useless. If you cannot share what you've accumulated or, at least, try to give some of it to other people, everything you've done looks useless."

"You should not leave this world without trying to give something to other people. When I look at my life I had one quality: to listen to other people who had been there before me," he concluded.

Saraki to Buhari: Nigerians await how you ’ll handle allegations against Oshiomhole

Senate President Bukola Saraki says Nigerians are eagerly waiting to see how President Muhammadu Buhari will handle allegations against Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said this while responding to the threat of the APC chairman to sue him.

Saraki had said the APC chairman did not have the moral stand to remain in politics following allegations by some governors that he collected bribes during the party’s primary elections.

But Oshiomhole asked Saraki to name aspirants he collected money from or face a law suit.

In a statement on Thursday, Yusuph Olaniyonu, special adviser to Saraki on media, quoted the senate president as saying he is ready to meet Oshiomhole in court.

“Nigerians are waiting to see how the president will handle the serious allegations against his party chairman,” he said.

“We expect the president with his anti-corruption campaign to institute thorough and transparent investigation into the allegations against his party chairman.

“The failure of the president to get to the root of the matter will finally destroy his ability and that of the party to continue to talk of any anti-graft battle. The president should let the investigation be thorough, open and transparent. This is no time for any cover-up.”

Saraki said until the outcome of a thorough investigation is known to Nigerians and the APC chairman is cleared of the allegations against him, he is not on a firm ground to talk about morality or fight against corruption.

It was reported that Oshiomhole was quizzed by the Department of State Services (DSS) over the allegations.

Atiku Abubakar Finally Reveals How Boko Haram Started

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, has said, he knows how Boko Haram started.

In an interview with The African Reports, which he shared on his verified Twitter handle, @atiku, Atiku said that, politicians were to be blamed for the emergence of Boko Haram.

When he was asked, how he was going to solve the challenge of Boko Haram terrorism, he said, “I happen to know how Boko Haram came into being. They were offshoots of political thuggery. Politicians used those boys in Boko Haram to win elections and then abandoned them and then there were no jobs for them. It was the same thing with the Niger Delta. In 1998, I saw it myself and I warned people.

“It’s going to be a multifaceted approach. It will involve negotiations. It will involve military action.”

Adams Oshiomhole threatens to sue Bukola Saraki over corruption claims

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has threatened to drag the senate President, Bukola Saraki, to court to prove his allegations of corruption against him.

In a statement issued Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary Simon Ebegbulem, the APC chairman said it was pathetic and irresponsible for Senator Saraki to resort to petty politics.

The Senate President had said in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Wednesday, that Oshiomhole did not deserve to remain in office as national chairman of the APC on the account of huge allegations of bribery and corruption leveled against him by party members during the recent primaries.

However, Oshiomhole described Saraki, as an “usurper of and pretender” to the position of senate president, adding that he had no moral ground to call for the resignation of the national chairman.

According to the statement, “it is sad that Saraki, who just woke up from slumber occasioned by his crushing defeat at the Port Harcourt presidential primary election of his party, could degenerate to such a low level.

“It is equally sad, but not unexpected, that Saraki, who is politically drowning, would make such libelous comments against the national chairman of the APC. And I challenge Saraki to mention one name of an aspirant that gave money to the National Chairman or we file a legal action against him,” he said.

Oshiomhole said whereas, the basis on which Saraki made those comments “was tenuous and unjustifiable, it is on record that Saraki has been in the eye of investigations by the EFCC and the ICPC for sundry cases of corruption. That is the same man that has taken it upon himself to question Comrade Oshiomhole’s credibility.

“We challenge him to mention one person who has claimed that he gave money to Oshiomhole to influence him and the decision of the party’s national working committee (NWC) in the just-concluded primary elections.

‘We insist that Saraki with his kind of prebendal politics is nothing but a monumental disgrace to the nation’s democracy,” the statement said.

TraderMoni: PDP asks INEC to prosecute Jide Sanwo-olu, disqualify APC

The Peoples Democratic Party, Lagos state chapter, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to activate its power to ensure fairness in elections by disqualifying the All Progressives Congress (APC) from contesting in the governorship election in Lagos State.

The party also asked the electoral body to prosecute the APC governorship candidate, Mr Jide Sanwoolu, for violating the election timetable on start of campaigns.

According to the PDP in a statement signed by Gani Taofik, its Publicity Secretary, the deliberate rallies into Lagos markets by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, is basically to introduce the APC governorship candidate to the traders for votes and not intended to launch any trade support programme, sic tradermoni.

Justifying its position, the PDP averred that the Mr Sanwoolu at every of the visitations is introduced as governorship candidate of APC and the vice president always sought the traders to vote APC to continue the ‘trader moni’. “Similarly, the visitations are fleshed up with APC campaign posters, souvenirs, musicians to promote APC and Sanwoolu”.

The PDP claims that the markets visitation is apparent electoral impunity which the INEC cannot deny knowledge of “thus allowing the APC to over reach other political parties in the state. If this is not stopped, other parties would also commence campaigns and indeed the INEC should be responsible for abetting the offences”.

Expressing its objections further, the PDP accused the INEC of not sanctioning the Lagos APC and governorship candidate who have also been using the state media houses to lure voters.

“We shall not standby to be technically rigged out of this election, we take very strong objections to these illegal and foul campaigns by the APC governorship candidate. We state categorically that the INEC is officially abetting this electoral impunity by looking the other way pretending not to notice the APC violations. This calls to question the readiness of the electoral body to allow fair contest in the coming elections.”

It would be recalled that the Vice President, Governor Ambode and the Lagos APC governorship candidate have recently been visiting markets in Lagos state to distribute Ten thousand naira each to traders as trade support in a scheme known as trader money.

Robber mistakenly shoots gang member in Bayelsa

A suspected armed robber was on Monday arrested by an angry mob after his colleague mistakenly shot him while they (the robbers) were trying to escape after an operation at Imgbi Road, Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

Investigations revealed that the four-man robbery gang at about 9:00p.m. pretended as customers and entered a supermarket where they dispossessed customers in the supermarket of their phones and emptied the cash vault of sales made for the day.

However, some young boys, reportedly sitting opposite the supermarket suspected something was amiss on with the way two of the gang members were peeping from inside the supermarket.

Their suspicion was confirmed when the robbers emerged from the supermarket with guns in their hands and the boys began to throw bottles at them.

Sensing danger as more residents of the area joined the boys to throw bottles at them, the robbers started shooting as they ran towards their parked tricycle popularly called Keke NAPEP.

According to an eyewitness account, one of the robbers mistakenly shot one of his members in the back in an attempt to shoot and scare the mob chasing them.

The tricycle also collided with a stationary truck but before the mob could reach the scene, three of the robbers escaped while the one that had sustained bullet wound was arrested by the mob and beaten thoroughly before he was handed over to a Police patrol team.

Chairman of the Bayelsa State Vigilante Service, Evangelist Parkinson Ekide and the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the development.

Meanwhile the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Mukan, has decried the indiscriminate release of suspects in Police custody.

He has, therefore, read a riot act declaring that only the Court of law can order the release of suspects already in Police custody.

CP Mukan who stated this during a consultative meeting with the leadership of the State Vigilante Service and the State Bayelsa Volunteer force over the rising cases of cult killings and armed robbery incidents assured the youths of a new order in the operations of the police command in the state.

“It is disheartening to hear that suspects caught will be on the streets under 24 hours. Such act would not be condoned except they are released by the court. Our approach will be total. During my tenure, the law will be allowed to take its full course”.

Solari confirmed as Real Madrid coach until 2021

Santiago Solari on Tuesday was confirmed as Real Madrid coach until 2021 following his successful spell in charge as caretaker boss of the European champions.

"Real Madrid's board of directors met today and decided to name Santiago Solari as first team coach until June 30, 2021," the club announced in a statement.

Solari's anointment as sacked Julen Lopetegui's permanent successor comes after wins in his first four matches.

And with 15 goals scored and only two conceded the 42-year-old Argentinian has established the best ever start for a Real manager.

After thrashing Melilla in the Copa del Rey, they won 5-0 away to Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League, between victories over Real Valladolid and Celta Vigo in La Liga.

The upturn has left Madrid only four points adrift of league leaders Barcelona and on the brink of qualification for the last 16 in Europe.

Solari was handed the reins on a temporary two-week basis on October 29 after Lopetegui had overseen a miserable run that included just one victory in seven games.

The last of those, a 5-1 thumping at the hands of Barcelona, proved the final straw for club president Florentino Perez but the team have rebounded under their new coach.

News that he had been rewarded with a permanent contract surfaced on Monday when the Spanish federation announced: "Everything is in order. Real Madrid have worked out his contract and there are no problems."

The Spanish press had urged Real to appoint the former Castilla 'B' team coach.

Solari's maiden match as long-term boss is the trip to Eibar in La Liga on November 25, following the international break.

Zinedine Zidane also stepped up mid-season from coaching Castilla in 2016 and led the team to the first of three consecutive Champions League trophies five months later.

This is Solari's maiden job in charge of a first team.

Antonio Conte, Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and Joachim Low had all been linked to the position.

Excitement as Osinbajo brings TraderMoni Scheme to Ikotun, Igando, Ile Epo markets

Three markets in Lagos State, Ikotun, Igando and Ile Epo, were on Monday thrown into frenzy as Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, activated the TraderMoni scheme in the markets.

TraderMoni is a Federal Government’s initiative aimed at providing two million petty traders across the country with collateral-free loans before the end of the year.

Excited crowd thronged and cheered as Osinbajo walked into the markets.

Shouts of TraderMoni, TraderMoni, ‘baba’ ‘baba,’ Osinbajo Osinbajo, rented the air, while security operatives had a field day controlling the crowd.

The vice president, who acknowledged the cheers, inspected the markets and had one-on-one interactions with the traders.

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State accompanied Osinbajo to the markets.

Also in the team was Daddy Showkey, a “galala singer’”, whose presence added fervour to the visits as his fans hailed and surged to exchange banters with him.

TraderMoni is designed to help petty traders expand their trade through the provision of collateral-free loans of N10, 000.

The loans are repayable over a period of six months.

Under the scheme, beneficiaries can get access to a higher facility ranging from N15, 000 to N50, 000 when they repaid N10, 000 within the stipulated time period.

Real Madrid Reward Interim Boss Solari With Permanent Contract

Interim Real Madrid manager Santiago Solari was appointed permanent coach on Monday after overseeing a startling upturn in the European champions' fortunes since he stepped in to replace Julen Lopetegui.

"Everything is in order. Real Madrid have worked out his contract and there are no problems," the Spanish football federation stated.

Solari has led Real to four wins out of four since being installed on a caretaker basis following Lopetegui's abrupt sacking last month.

And with 15 goals scored and only two conceded he has established the best ever start for a Real manager.

Solari, who spent five years playing for Real, was promoted from his role in charge of Castilla, the clubs B team, after Lopetegui had overseen a miserable run that included just one victory in seven games.

The last of those, a 5-1 thumping at the hands of Barcelona, proved the final straw for club president Florentino Perez but the team have rebounded under their new coach.

Solari is Perez's 13th manager in 15 seasons across two seperate periods at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"He has done excellently," Madrid club director Emilio Butragueno said on Sunday night. "We are very happy with how things have gone."

Few could argue with the results, which have now earned Solari the chance to prove himself over a longer period.

He indicated in his opening press conference that he was open to keeping the job full-time.

"It's a great opportunity and it's a great club," Solari said. "I don't just say that now as coach of the first team. I've been here with other teams, I've played and sweated in the shirt of this club.

"Madrid is bigger than all of us but it touches us all with its greatness. I want to be a part of it."

Zinedine Zidane also stepped up mid-season from coaching Castilla in 2016 and led the team to Champions League glory five months later.

Solari has played down the comparisons with Zidane, who commanded instant respect owing to his glittering playing career and long-established status at the club, enhancing his status as a Real legend by winning three consecutive Champions League crowns.

"He's one of the greatest things we've ever had at this club," Solari said last month. "He's very calm, a great coach and nobody can compare to him."

The challenge for Solari will be to manage the dressing room when results take a turn for the worse.

After the international break, Madrids generous run of games continues with league matches against Eibar, Valencia, Huesca, Rayo Vallecano and Villarreal before Christmas, none of whom currently reside in La Ligas top half.

They will also play Roma in Italy and CSKA Moscow at home in the Champions League, two games likely to settle who goes through top of Group G.

Solari was only allowed two weeks as an interim coach according to Spanish regulations, meaning Sundays trip to Celta Vigo was always likely to precede a decision on his future.

It proved an impressive final audition as Madrid struck a 4-2 victory, with Solari having to adapt to a handful of injury problems during the game.

"Well go to the death with him, he's a great coach and of course we want him to continue," Madrid defender Alvaro Odriozola said afterwards.

This will be Solaris maiden job in charge of a first team.

Antonio Conte, Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and Joachim Low had all been linked to the position, with fresh approaches still possible next summer.

Access Bank: No plan to buy Diamond Bank

Access Bank on Monday denied having an agreement to take over assets of Diamond Bank Nigeria.

A national daily reported that Access Bank was set to add “Diamond Bank’s portfolio to its assets in the next few months”.

But Access Bank said it was not in any discussion with Diamond Bank or any other institution.

“Our attention has been drawn to a newspaper report, relating to Access Bank Plc being engaged in merger and acquisition talks with Diamond Bank Plc,” Access Bank’s company secretary Sunday Ekwochi said in a statement.

“We wish to notify the Nigerian Stock Exchange and the general public that the bank has not entered into such talk with Diamond Bank or any other institution.”

The earlier report said both financial institutions have reached an agreement in broad terms on the acquisition. What is left is the valuation of assets, with a view to determining the level of compensation and systems’ integration.

“As a public quoted company built on best practice, the bank is fully cognizant of its disclosure obligation in respect of any such corporate action and will always discharge its obligation in the most professional manner,” Ekwochi said.

Olisa Agbakoba: Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election will eclipse Nigeria

A human rights lawyer, Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, has described all the state governors as thieves.

Agbakoba, a former President of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, also claimed that voting President Muhammadu Buhari back into office in 2019 will eclipse Nigeria.

He said there was no future for Nigeria, adding that the country only exists on paper.

In an interview published on Vanguard, the lawyer who turned 65 recently, said the Atiku Abubakar may not bring solutions Nigerians crave for but has to be given the chance.

Agbakoba said, “I have been doing this for 40 years. The latter part, that is, the last 10 years, has been a downward spiral because the Nigerian state has disintegrated. Nigeria doesn’t exist except on paper.

“The disconnect lies with the fact that the youth themselves are trapped in poverty. They are trapped in unemployment, so there is no way they can see.

“Idealism requires a certain sense of purpose but if the youths we speak of are busy drinking and smoking, then, of course, they can’t be useful. And that is exactly what the politicians are capitalizing on.

“As the leader of the Third Force Movement and the political process, I was initially convinced that change will be seen in 2019 as a result of the new small parties which are very strong on the social media.

“Like the ones headed by Durotoye and Sowore. But they can’t even talk to themselves. They tried and they failed.

“I hope that people would understand that voting for Buhari would eclipse Nigeria. You judge a man by the four years he has ruled. Atiku has not been tried.

“A lot of things have been said about him, but I would rather vote for him than for Buhari although my first preference is to go for this basket of Third Force political parties and, hopefully, we can get the house in order.

“You paint a picture of hopelessness for this country. Why? I am happy to shock you. God did not say he will fix Nigeria.

“We have the free will to fix our country. We are not allowing our God the opportunity to help us to fix things.

“Nigeria is one of the world’s most religious countries but we are spiritually bankrupt. Which governor does not invoke God or Allah?

“They all do it but they are all thieves. Let them first declare that their security votes will no longer be used.

“We will be looking at trillions of Naira. I don’t know where you have been but the reality is that Nigeria is in such a bad state. In the index of failed states, Nigeria is at a position described as low-grade civil war.

“Most of the states are unsafe. The police are helpless, the institutions are in a bad state. Despite all these, in Abuja, the politicians are enjoying.”

5 Players Who Will Determine the Outcome of the Manchester Derby

The first Manchester derby of the season is upon us with defending champions Manchester City hosting rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s team are unbeaten so far in the Premier League but will be facing a resurgent Red Devils side, who have been on a winning run of late, having recently defeated Juventus in the Champions League.

Here are five players who will determine the outcome of the Manchester derby:

5. David de Gea

The Spanish goalkeeper has been one of the most important players for Manchester United over the last few seasons, and he will continue to play a significant part in this match as well.

David de Gea's saves have kept United in the game on a number of occasions, and when the likes of Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling inevitably break through the defence, Jose Mourinho will be praying his star keeper helps keep them out.

4. Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero has been part of the Manchester City side for close to a decade now and has been their main goalscoring threat in all the seasons he has been in England.

The Argentine can run through defences and can cause a lot of problems to any backline, especially one as brittle as that of Manchester United.

With 150 goals in the league, Aguero is eighth on the list of top goalscorers in the Premier League and would be one of the biggest threats to the United defence.

3. Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial has been on a bit of a golden run of late, having scored in four consecutive Premier League games. The Frenchman has picked up form at the right time, and he is leading the mini-resurgence of the club, scoring winning goals on an almost weekly basis.

Having received a call up to the France squad for the upcoming international break, Mourinho will hope his confidence will be sky high going into the Manchester derby.

The forward has been the Red Devils' most important player during the last month and fans would be hoping he continues in the same vein.

2. David Silva

Another important player in the Manchester City squad who has been the fulcrum of the team's recent success is David Silva. The Spaniard is the player Guardiola looks to for unlocking even the most stingy defences.

In the absence of Kevin De Bruyne, Silva has assumed control of midfield very well and helped the team become an even better attacking force than they were last season. He will be expected to be at his best if City are to come away with all three points.

1. Paul Pogba

The trump card for Jose Mourinho will be Paul Pogba. The talented Frenchman had shown in the World Cup that if he is used in the right fashion, he can be a deadly force in midfield.

Pogba has stepped up in recent weeks and has been one of the better players in the club's recent upturn in form.

It will be up to Mourinho to motivate the player to be at his best, despite the late injury concern, so that the Red Devils can approach the match with a positive attitude and go for all three points.

Man United Legend Gary Neville Says He Loved Jose Mourinho's Celebrations Against Juventus

Man United Legend Gary Neville Says He Loved Jose Mourinho's Celebrations Against Juventus
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has said that manager Jose Mourinho is impossible in both victory and defeat, and claimed that there was nothing wrong with him taunting the Juventus fans after the game.

Mourinho was reportedly insulted throughout the game as fans chanted against him and when his team completed an unlikely comeback win, he cupped his hand on his ear in an apparent gesture to signal he couldn't hear them.

While other former players were more critical of Mourinho's gesture, Neville found nothing wrong with it, and insisted that the reaction was a positive display of passion.

He told Sky Sports, “Some people might may not like that but I love that about him. I think there should be reaction and passion at the end of a match. I even like his reaction at the end of the game against Newcastle, which the FA have appealed against."

Gary Neville on Mourinho: "The idea of seeing him cup the hand to the fans at the end of the game - some people might not like it. That's what I love about him. That's what I love about football."

That’s my manager. #MUFC

“To me, Jose's best qualities were always that he was impossible when he was losing and impossible when he was winning and it was always enthralling to watch and he always brought everyone along the line.

“When I think of him in the press conference after the Juventus game and some of the one liners he came out with, compared to where he was a few weeks ago, and the day before the Newcastle game, that's a massive difference. He has hung in there and shown determination,” he concluded.

It remains to be seen if the Juventus win will boost Manchester United's confidence enough for them to get back in the top four and possibly, the title race, considering they are currently in seventh place on the Premier League table.

Ahmed Gulak: I was offered $2 million to manipulate Imo APC guber primary

Ahmed Gulak says he was offered bribe to manipulate the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Imo.

The APC chieftain was the chairman of the panel that oversaw the exercise.

Gulak, a former adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, says an unnamed person offered him $2 million and a private jet flight to Imo state before the primaries began.

The party’s national working committee endorsed Hope Uzodimma, senator representing Imo west, as its governorship flag bearer, a decision Rochas Okorocha, governor of the state, is kicking against.

Okorocha maintains that Uche Nwosu, his son-in-law, is the authentic winner of the primary.

In an interview, Gulak told of how he was nearly “kidnapped” alongside members of the panel when they arrived Imo.

“…Even before I went to Imo state, I was offered a private jet to take me to Imo state but I refused because I didn’t want to be compromised,” he was quoted as saying.

“I refused the private jet and even the tempting offer made to me, very tempting, we are talking about two million dollars here, which I refused.

“Although, I tried to persuade them that I was going to do what is needful, free and fair primaries. Every stakeholder must be involved.

“Immediately we landed at the airport, that was where the problem started. They wanted to kidnap every member and only God knows where they wanted to take us to, which I refused.”

Gulak also alleged that the governor forced members of the electoral panel to declare Nwosu winner of the primary.

Nwosu had been announced winner before the party’s national working committee cancelled the exercise.

According to Gulak, “after the collation, few others and myself escaped from where we would have been conscripted. The governor himself came to take everybody in the hotel but before he arrived, about four of us escaped and he moved other members including the secretary.

“He took them to government house and they read a prepared speech declaring his son in-law the winner of that exercise. But I had already left Owerri for Abuja where I submitted my result”.

The outcome of the primary election is still being contested in court.

Muhammadu Buhari declares state of emergency on water supply, sanitation

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday declared a state of emergency on Nigeria’s water supply, sanitation and hygiene sector.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President made the declaration while inaugurating the National Action Plan for Revitalisation of Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Buhari said the declaration has become imperative to reduce the high-prevalence of water-borne diseases in different parts of the country.

The situation, he noted, has caused preventable deaths.

Buhari told the gathering that he was aware that Nigeria did not meet the MDG targets for Water Supply and Sanitation that ended in 2015.

He said, “The Sustainable Development Goals targets (6.1 & 6.2) for WASH are even more demanding as they require WASH services to be provided in adequate quantity and quality on premises at affordable prices.

“This cannot be achieved if we continue with ‘a business as usual’ approach.

“It is on this premise that I fully endorse the decision taken at the meeting of the Federal Executive Council in April this year to declare ‘a State of Emergency on our WASH Sector’.

“I call on all state governments to complement this effort by according the sector similar recognition to enable us work together to achieve the SDG targets for WASH by 2030.”

Buhari directed government at all levels to redouble efforts and work towards meeting the nation’s water supply and sanitation needs.

He described statistics on open defecation, access to piped water services and sanitation in the country as disturbing.

The President said henceforth, Federal Government’s support to state governments would be based on their commitment to implement the National WASH Action Plan in their respective states and to end open defecation by 2025.

He said, “Access to piped water services which was 32% in 1990 has declined to 7% in 2015; access to improved sanitation has also decreased from 38% in 1990 to 29% in 2015.

“Our country now ranks No 2 in the global rating on open defecation as about 25% of our population are practising open defecation.

“WASH services at the rural areas are unsustainable as 46% of all water schemes are non-functional, and the share of our spending on WASH sector has been declining from 0.70% of the GDP in 1990 to about 0.27% in 2015 which is far below the 0.70% at the West African regional level.”

Stop complaining, your time almost up, Fayose tells Buhari

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has again told President Muhammadu Buhari to face governance and stop complaining, saying; “When he was seeking votes of Nigerians, he never said he was coming to complain. Rather, he promised to fix what he claimed to have identified as the problems.

He said the President’s time was almost up, adding that he said has spent three and half years blaming his predecessors and inflicted both security and economic crises on the country.

Reacting to the President’s statement that he “inherited a mind boggling mismanaged Nigeria,” Fayose said in a statement issued on Thursday, by his Media Aide, Lere Olayinka that “it is no longer funny that a president who assumed office three and half years ago is still complaining about how he met the country instead of Nigerians having feelings of how well he has solved the problems he claimed that he had capacity to solve.

“He should stop singing the same song of lamentation that he has been singing since 2015 and learn from his colleague in Ghana, who hit the ground running immediately he assumed office.”

Fayose, who said the President should face the reality of a failed tenure and be prepared to leave office next year, added that “only a leader who lacks competence and is challenged by knowledge and exposure will blame his predecessors for over three years.”

“Nigerians of mostly below forty years who voted for the President in 2015 did so because they never experienced him as a Military Head of State. Now that they have seen that he does not have the required capacity to govern a country like Nigeria, they are eager to vote him out.”

The former governor charged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders to put everything into the 2019 elections so as to be able rescue Nigerians from the present state of anguish occasioned by the directionless APC government.

“Today, Nigeria has become the ‘Poverty Capital’ of the world. God forbid, a Buhari’s second term will turn Nigeria to a republic of poverty where people will be running to other neighboring countries to feed. PDP must therefore work very hard to save the country from going down completely,” Fayose said.

Atiku Abubakar approves N33,000 minimum wage for his staff

The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has approved for all of his staffs in his corporation, N33,000 as minimum wage.

The managing director of the Atiku owned, Gotel Communications, Mohammed El-Yakub, confirmed this in a statement on Thursday.

The Gotel Communications based in Yola.

“The N33,000 new salary scale, which takes effect from November 2018, includes domestic servants and all categories of workers on the former vice president’s payroll,” El-Yakub said.

This is following the recommendation of the proposed N30,000 as minimum wage by the tripartite committee set up by the Federal Government on Wednesday.

Abubakar on Wednesday said President Muhammadu Buhari cannot be trusted to implement the proposed N30,000.

In a statement issued by his media office, the presidential hopeful said Buhari, who is known for ‘flip-flopping’ may not have the political will to implement the new wage which he said does not even translate to a ‘living wage’.

It said Buhari has failed to note that the workers are the goose that ‘lay the golden eggs’ which members of his administration are enjoying. It added that the government has become synonymous with flip-flopping in policy implementation.

However, Buhari said while receiving the Tripartite Committee’s report on the Review of the National Minimum Wage on Wednesday that he will transmit an Executive bill (on National Minimum Wage) to the National Assembly for its passage within the shortest possible time and that he is committed to new minimum wage

“Our plan is to transmit the Executive bill to the National Assembly for its passage within the shortest possible time.”

“I am fully committed to having a new National Minimum Wage Act in the very near future.”
