I lent EFCC N300 million to kick off in 2004 - Atiku Abubakar

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, says he came to the financial rescue of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) when it was launched in 2004.

Atiku spoke on The Candidate, a presidential town hall conversation hosted by Kadaria Ahmed, a journalist in response to a question on how he would make the anti-graft agency independent and able to discharge its duties on time without preferential treatment.

He said the EFCC had no budgetary allocation to begin operation when it was launched. “My quarrel with the judicial system is that there is too much delay. If we can shorten the delay, so that justice is seen to be meted out immediately, better for us.

“The problem is the legislation and the procedure being adopted by the judiciary. The cases we initiated in our administration are still in court. Now, where is the justice?

“When we set up the EFCC, I personally brought the first draft of the regulation from Brazil and it was based on that draft that the EFCC legislation was drafted.

“When it was finally passed by the national assembly, EFCC did not even have the money in the budget to start operation. I borrowed them N300m from the privatisation proceeds and said ‘you better get to work’.

“The following year when there was budgetary allocations, they repaid the money. Most of the convictions that we are hearing today were cases that we started in our administration.”

Black Panther wins top prize at Actors Guild Awards

Groundbreaking superhero blockbuster “Black Panther” on Sunday won the top prize at the Screen Actors Guild Awards — a major boost to its campaign for Oscars glory next month.

The film won for best ensemble cast, besting musical romance “A Star Is Born,” Spike Lee’s “BlacKkKlansman,” Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” and rom-com “Crazy Rich Asians.”

Chadwick Boseman, who plays the title role in what was the top-grossing film in North America in 2018, explained the film’s significance alongside his co-stars, nearly all of them black.

“We all know what it’s like to be told that there is not a place for you to be featured, yet you are young, gifted and black,” Boseman told the audience at the Shrine Auditorium.

“We knew that we had something special that we wanted to give the world — that we could be full human beings in the roles that we were playing, that we could create a world that exemplified a world we wanted to see.”

“Black Panther” also won for best stunt ensemble.

This year, the SAG Awards come at a key point in the race to next month’s Academy Awards — just after the Oscars nominations, and well before voting for the winners begins.

The Screen Actors Guild accounts for a major percentage of the 8,000-odd Oscar voters, so the SAG winners will earn a lot of awards season momentum.

Despite four nominations, “A Star Is Born” — the latest iteration of the classic Tinseltown story of an aging star and the ingenue he discovers — went home empty-handed.

One major absentee at the 25th edition of the SAG Awards was Alfonso Cuaron’s “Roma” — the top Oscar nomination getter was left out of SAG contention.

While SAG-winning casts have only gone on to win a best picture Oscar about half the time, the awards are better at predicting best actor winners (79 percent) and best actress (75 percent).

Glenn Close solidified her frontrunner status in the race for the best actress Oscar with a win for her searing work in “The Wife.”

So far this awards season, she has also won a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Award.

For best actor, Rami Malek’s star-making turn as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody” was rewarded — over Christian Bale’s work in another biopic, as former US vice president Dick Cheney in “Vice.”

“I just never in my wildest dreams thought I could be in a category with these men,” said Malek, who also won a Golden Globe for the role and is nominated for an Oscar.

Lagos governorship needs experienced person - Fashola

Mr. Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, has said that there is no room for experimentation in Lagos State and so needs someone who is experienced to govern the state.

Fashola dropped the hint at a radio programme monitored by newsmen.

He said the enormity and complexity of the state do not allow for it to be superintended by an inexperienced person.

He said that for a state with a population of over 20 million people, only a tested and trusted person should be given the mandate to govern it.

He debunked the assertion that the state was in bondage.

He said, “Lagosians are not in any way in bondage. I cannot fathom where anybody got the notion that Lagosians are in bondage.”

He was quick to point out that what the people of the state needed now is a tested and trusted person.

The minister said the state was not a place for anybody to come and play but to settle down to serious business.

He was quick to add, that during his tenure as governor, he hardly slept for more than three hours in a day.

Fashola also used the opportunity of the interview to assure the residents of Ibafo and Mowe in Ogun State, that in the not too distant future, they would begin to enjoy power supply, noting that they were not connected to the national grid for over 10 years now.

He advised that anybody who has left government to endeavour to take the back seat instead of meddling in affairs that are not in his domain.

NBA calls for reversal of Justice Onnoghen’s suspension

The Nigerian Bar Association,  has described the suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari as a coup against the judiciary.

NBA President, Mr Paul Usoro (SAN) also condemned the swearing-in of Justice Ibrahim Mohammed as Acting Chief Judge (CJN).

It said the action of the executive portends a slide into anarchy, adding, “It is also a complete deconstruction of the rule of law and due process”

“The NBA unequivocally rejects and condemns this attempted coup against the Nigerian Judiciary and evident suspension of the Nigerian Constitution by the Executive arm of the Federal Government.

“It amounts to an absolute breach of the constitution and the usurpation of the powers of the senate and the Nigerian Judicial Council,” Usoro said.

The statement noted that it was unfortunate that the executive arm of government purported to suspend the CJN on the basis of an alleged ex parte order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

“This is the same Tribunal that, to the knowledge of the executive, had, only the previous day, January 22, adjourned its proceedings to January 28 and has before it a Motion on Notice that is yet to be argued.

“The motion is seeking the same reliefs as were contained in the purported ex parte application for the suspension of the CJN, among others,” the statement read in parts.

It called on the Federal Government to avert the looming constitutional crisis precipitated by what it described as an ill-advised action.

“In particular, the NBA demands the reversal of the purported suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen.

“We also call on the National Assembly to assert its constitutional authority and powers and prevent this slide into chaos and erosion of the rule of law.

PDP suspends campaign over Justice Onnoghen’s suspension

People’s Democratic Party said it has suspended its election campaigns for 72 hours after the chief justice of the country Walter Onnoghen was suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“we are suspending our campaign for 72 hours,” PDP’s national chair Uche Secondus said.

“It is our hope that President Buhari will listen to the voice of all lovers of democracy the world over and restore democracy in Nigeria immediately and without qualifications.”

Onnoghen is facing a six-count charge of non-declaration of assets when he became the chief justice of Nigeria. President Buhari said the allegations against Onnoghen were “grievous enough”.

He said in an address on Friday that “security agencies have since then traced other suspicious transactions running into millions of dollars to the CJN’s personal accounts.”

Onnoghen’s suspension was immediately followed by the swearing in of Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed as the acting chief justice of Nigeria.

Although Secondus was silent on the allegations against Onnoghen, he said Buhari’s action was in defiance to the Constitution and an “attack on democracy”.

Nigeria in worst state now - Victor Olunloyo, former Oyo State governor

The former governor of old Oyo State, Dr. Victor Olunloyo, on Thursday disclosed that Nigeria is in her worst state since independence.

Dr. Olunloyo dropped the bombshell as guest lecturer of the First Research Development of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) which attracted principal officers of the institution including the Rector, Mr. Obafemi Omokungbe.

His words: ‘’This country is in her worst state for two reasons: violence and corruption ravaging the country. We are witnesses to what is happening in the country.’’

Olunloyo, whose lecture was titled: ‘’Mathematics, Science, Technology and Innovations,” said he never amassed wealth as a governor nor he had he any landed property in the country.

“I hate corruption. I have no house in Lagos, Abuja or abroad. One was allocated to me in Abuja but was stolen from me.’’

He said the former Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and now Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai knows what happened to his Abuja land. “Because I was in opposition party in 1983, the then governor, Alhaji Lateef Jakande did not allocate land to me on political grounds.

The first rector of Ibadan Polytechnic, Oyo State, again shocked the audience when he revealed that in 2015 general elections, he voted for President Muhammadu Buhari but was silent on whether he would vote for him again in 2019 polls.

‘’I have never met President Buhari. But I voted for him in 2015 against former President Goodluck Jonathan and I was nearly beaten because they saw me voting for Buhari,” he disclosed.

According to him, in 1999 general elections, he voted for Chief Olusegun Obasanjo because is from Owo and a Yoruba man.

However, Olunloyo said Obasanjo likes to criticise everybody but does not like people criticising him and disclosed that of all military heads of state to have ruled the country, he liked General Ibrahim Babangida without stating the reason.

Monaco coach Thierry Henry suspended

Thierry Henry has been suspended from his role as coach of struggling Ligue 1 side Monaco as they prepare for a key relegation clash this weekend, the club announced on Thursday.

"Henry has been suspended until a definitive decision is made," the club said in a statement, adding assistant coach Franck Passi would oversee training on Friday ahead of their trip to fellow strugglers Dijon.

Henry, 41, was suspended by Monaco, who are second-from-bottom in the French league with 15 points, after the former Arsenal and France striker earned the Principality club just two wins since his arrival in October.

He took up the post with the 2017 French champions in October following the sacking of title-winner Leonardo Jardim but failed to improve on the poor start to the campaign by his predecessor.

Monaco are two points behind Dijon, who are 17th and a further point from safety, after collecting only three wins from 21 matches, and crashed out of Europe early after finishing bottom of Champions League Group A with just a single point.

Their miserable form under Henry culminated in a humiliating 3-1 French Cup defeat to second-tier Metz on Tuesday and a 5-1 home Ligue 1 hammering by Strasbourg last weekend, during which the tension surrounding Henry began to show.

Henry was forced to apologise after being caught calling Strasbourg defender Kenny Lala's grandmother "a whore" after he delayed a throw-in with the score still 2-1.

Monaco have brought in players in the transfer window but Henry's former Arsenal teammate Cesc Fabregas -- who arrived from Chelsea -- was at fault for Strasbourg's third, while fellow new arrival Naldo left them with an uphill battle after being sent off in the seventh minute.

However escape from the relegation zone is possible as the two sides immediately outside the bottom three -- Caen and Amiens -- face Champions League-chasing Montpellier and Lyon and can be caught should the pair lose to their high-flying opponents and Monaco beat Dijon.

Three Ways how Cristiano Ronaldo has Helped Juventus Generate Income off the Pitch

Juventus pulled off a coup of sorts when they managed to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid in the summer for 100 million. While his transfer price and annual salary of €30 million maybe considered as too high for many, there is no doubt that his marketability and image generates income for the club from various sources.

Take a look at how Ronaldo is helping Juventus off the pitch.

3. Juventus's market value has skyrocketed

Such is Ronaldo's value, that Juventus' share price gradually started to rise as soon as reports emerged that he is set to join them. Post his signing, between July and September - the club's share price skyrocketed by over 125 percent, thereby increasing market capitalisation to €1.5 billion.

2. Fans have flocked to see their star attraction

The club owners and hierarchy are known as some of the best business minds in the sport and displayed that by raising the season tickets prices by 30 percent as soon as the Portugese signed for them.

That did not deter the fans though, with all of their tickets i.e around 30,000 sold out promptly, just showing how big a draw Ronaldo is.

1. CR7 shirt selling like hot cakes

Ronaldo is not only known for his skills on the pitch, but also for his marketing power and that was on display as 520,000 replica Ronaldo shirts were sold before he had even kicked a ball. A look at income that he generates for the club, clearly shows that the 100 million Juventus paid for him is arguably one of the smartest deals in the history of the sport.

NIS: New Nigeria international passport to cost N70,000

Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Monday said registration and the issuance of new international passport would cost Nigerians N70,000.

NIS spokesman Sunday James, who made the disclosure, said the agency will commence issuance of the new international passport from Monday, March 4 2019 in Abuja.

Issuance of the passport will commence in Ikoyi in Lagos on March 25, Kano on April 1, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos on April 8 and London, United Kingdom April 15.

He said the phase two multiple rollout in New York, Washington, and Atlanta, USA would follow immediately after London on April 22; while other locations, local and abroad, would follow in sequence from April 29.

Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, January 16 launched the new red diplomatic passport at an emergency Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja.

However, NIS spokesman said existing passport booklet will run concurrently with the new enhanced passport booklet until the former expires.

According to James, the advantages of the new passport includes its 10-year validity, self-tracking of application and express centres for urgent application.

Other advantages he said included weather friendliness, compliance with latest ICAO standard, polycarbonate technology that reduces the incidence of damage as well saves Nigerians in the Diaspora time of frequent visits to Nigerian Embassies.

He, however, urged “Nigerians to take advantage of the reforms, avoid patronising third party or touts and utilise the online platforms provided by the service for their passport application.”

Cash-for-votes: Politicians planning to use food vendors as cash points – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says that it has discovered fresh plot by desperate politicians to use food vendors around polling units with large voter populations as collection points for cash-for-votes as well as other forms of material inducement to voters on election day.

Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, who raised the alarm in his remarks when he hosted European Union Chief Observer, Mrs Marie Arena, in Abuja, dismissed claims that the Commission has outsourced the recruitment of election duty staff to partisan actors.

“There is no doubt that our electoral processes are getting better and votes count. We will continue to progressively improve our elections and protect the sanctity of the vote. This calls for the support of all citizens and all stakeholders. In our determination to do so, we have taken bold steps to address the disturbing trend of vote-buying by some political actors.

“For this reason, we have modified the administration of our polling units in order to make it difficult for voters to expose their marked ballot papers on election day.

“We have also introduced the partial ban on the use of mobile phones and other electronic devices by voters while in the voting cubicles. We are also introducing the rolling and flattening of ballot papers by voters on election day. We are training our election duty staff, in addition to voter education and sensitization, on this new innovation. We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the sanctity of the ballot.

“However, following recent consultations with stakeholders across the six geo-political zones in Nigeria, the attention of the Commission was drawn to a new plan by some political actors to use food vendors around polling units with large voter populations as collection points for cash-for-votes as well as other forms of material inducement to voters on election day. We are aware of this trick. It will not work,” he claimed.

Dismissing the claim to outsource election ad-hoc staff, he said: “The bulk of ad hoc staff for election duty will be drawn from the pool of young Nigerians serving in the National Youth Service scheme. The Commission has established clear criteria for drawing from students of tertiary institutions to make up for any shortfalls. This has been the practice over several electoral cycles.

“Similarly, Collation and Returning Officers are drawn from senior academic staff of Federal Universities led by the Vice Chancellors. We have already commenced the process following our meeting with the Vice Chancellors last week. In addition, there is a clearly established system of vetting all election duty staff before they are engaged.

“Therefore, the claim that the Commission has outsourced the recruitment of election duty staff to partisan actors is the usual allegation on the eve of elections and should be disregarded. With 25 days to the 2019 General Elections, the Commission’s attention is firmly focused on the conduct of credible elections. We will not be distracted into a fatuous debate.

“I wish to assure the EU that our preparation for the 2019 General Election is on course. We have had a series of very assuring meetings with the security agencies in order to ensure that processes are protected, the right of voters to vote freely safeguarded, access for observers and the media guaranteed, the election transparent and the outcome a true reflection of the will of the Nigerian people,” he said.

Speaking further, Yakubu said: “Let me warmly welcome the EU Chief Observer Mrs. Maria Arena to INEC. The EU is one of the long-standing partners of the Commission in deepening electoral democracy in Nigeria.

“Through the EU-Support for Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN), we have developed and validated our strategic plans; deepened our engagement with stakeholders; enhanced the participation of marginalised groups in the electoral process especially women, youths and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)

“They built the capacities of our staff; brought together other electoral commissions within Africa to share experience on best practice in the use of technology in elections; and benefitted from the services of election experts in various aspects of the Commission’s operations.

“I must equally acknowledge the benefit we derived from the recommendations of the EU Observer Mission to our last General Elections in 2015 led by Mr Santiago Fisas. We were delighted to once again receive Mr Fisas as head of the Election Follow-up Mission (EFM) to Nigeria from October 10 to November 9, 2017.

“We have implemented all the recommendations made by the EU Mission in 2015 that are within the powers of the Commission to do, including the simultaneous accreditation and voting system which we introduced on January 9, 2016 and used it to seamlessly conduct off-season elections into 194 constituencies,” he said.

Nigeria is back to Abacha era - Obasanjo

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo says Nigeria is back to the Abacha era when state institutions were used to fight perceived enemies of the head of state.

He was speaking on Sunday in his state of the nation address which he tagged “Points for Concern and Action”.

Sani Abacha, a general, was the military head of state from November 1993 till his death in June 1998 and was accused of using dictatorial powers to rule the country.

It was gathered that Obasanjo decided to address the nation following recent developments in the polity, including the trial of the chief justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, over an alleged false declaration of assets.

Obasanjo said: “Today, another Abacha Era is here. The security institutions are being misused to fight all critics and opponents of Buhari and to derail our fledgling democracy. EFCC, Police and Code of Conduct Tribunal are also being equally misused to deal with those Buhari sees as enemies for criticising him or as those who may not do his bidding in manipulating election results. Criticism, choice and being different are inherent trade mark of democracy. If democracy is derailed or aborted, anarchy and authoritarianism will automatically follow.

“Today, as in the day of Abacha, Nigerians must rise up and do what they did in the time of Abacha. Churches and Mosques prayed. International community stood by us Nigerians. I was a beneficiary and my life was saved. Well-meaning Nigerians took appropriate actions and made sacrifices, some supreme, some less than supreme but God had the final say and He took the ultimate action.”

Obasanjo was jailed for life by Abacha on 1995 over an alleged coup plot, but he was released in 1998 after the death of the military ruler.

He was then twice elected president of Nigeria, from 1999 to 2007, having been a military head of state himself from 1976 to 1979.

Petr Cech Announces His Plan to Retire at the End of 2018/19 Season

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has announced his intention to retire at the end of the season.

The four-time Premier League champion will celebrate his 37th birthday in May and feels the time is now right to hang up his gloves after achieving everything he set out to do in his career.

"This is my 20th season as a professional player and it has been 20 years since I signed my first professional contract, so it feels like the right time to announce that I will retire at the end of this season," Cech explained in a short statement released on Twitter.

"Having played 15 years in the Premier League, and won every single trophy possible, I feel like I have achieved everything I set out to achieve."

Reassuring Gunners fans about his commitment for the remainder of the campaign, he added, "I will continue to work hard at Arsenal to hopefully win one more trophy this season, then I am looking forward to seeing what life holds for me off the pitch."

Aside from his Premier League success, Cech, who joined Arsenal from Chelsea in 2015, has also won five FA Cups, three League Cups, the Champions League and Europa League, as well as four Community Shields in a club career that began with Czech club Chmel Blsnay in 1999.

After initially starting this season as Arsenal number one and captain, Cech lost his place to summer signing Bernd Leno after a short layoff with a hamstring injury and has been on the bench for every Premier League game since late October.

He has worn his trademark headwear for games ever since recovering from a life threatening collision with Reading winger Stephen Hunt while in action for Chelsea back in 2006.

6 Hard things you may have to do if you want to be rich

Take your time to read through and learn from  Self-made millionaire Steve Siebold.

Self-made millionaire Steve Siebold says that building wealth is a learnable skill. If you work at it, you can improve. "Like most things in life, becoming good at attracting money is no different than becoming good at anything else, be it being a sub-par golfer, losing weight or mastering a second language," he writes in "How Rich People Think."
For most people, wealth, like fluency in another language, doesn't simply come to you one day. Getting rich takes sustained work.
Here are six lifestyle changes that have worked for self-made millionaires and billionaires and could also work for you.

Ditch the steady paycheck

Siebold, who spent decades studying the world's wealthiest people, says the rich are typically self-employed, while average people tend to settle for steadier situations.
"It's not that there aren't world-class performers who punch a time clock for a paycheck, but for most this is the slowest path to prosperity, promoted as the safest," he writes in "How Rich People Think." "The great ones know self-employment is the fastest road to wealth."
That's not to say you should quit your day job right now. In fact, self-made millionaire Daymond John says the idea that you have to quit your 9-to-5 to become a successful entrepreneur "is garbage." Instead, start something on the side, says John, who lived on the tips he made waiting tables at Red Lobster while launching the clothing line that would evolve into a $6 billion brand.

Get used to being uncomfortable

If you want to earn more or get ahead in life, you have to be willing to step outside of your comfort zone, says Siebold: "World class thinkers learn early on that becoming a millionaire isn't easy and the need for comfort can be devastating. They learn to be comfortable while operating in a state of ongoing uncertainty."
Stepping outside of your comfort zone could mean taking a job you feel unqualified for, learning a new skill or calling up people for advice. After all, self-made millionaire Bobbi Brown and entrepreneur Koel Thomae both started their successful careers by cold-calling.

Negotiate your salary

Sure, negotiation can be a tricky business, but not getting paid what you're worth could mean the difference between an average life and a rich one.
After all, as self-made millionaire Grant Sabatier says, "the number one thing that will dictate your future earning potential and get you to $1 million the fastest is how much money you are being paid today."
Before asking for a raise, do your homework. Read up on costly negotiation mistakes, negotiation tips and career expert Suzy Welch's top advice.

Don't show off — show up

"I didn't buy my first luxury watch or car until my businesses and investments were producing multiple secure flows of income," writes self-made millionaire Grant Cardone, who was struggling to make ends meet before hitting seven figures. "I was still driving a Toyota Camry when I had become a millionaire. Be known for your work ethic, not the trinkets that you buy."
Warren Buffett may live by a similar philosophy. After all, the legendary investor prefers to eat at McDonald's and never spends more than $3.17 on a breakfast sandwich.

Be willing to use other people's money

Rich people aren't afraid to ask for funding. If they come up with a great idea they're unable to finance, they "proceed to use other people's money to make it happen," Siebold writes.
"Rich people know not being solvent enough to personally afford something is not relevant. The real question is, 'Is this worth buying, investing in, or pursuing?' If so, the wealthy know money is always available because rich people are always looking for great investments and superior performers to make those investments profitable."
It's worked for filmmaker and self-made millionaire Spike Lee. "I've got no problem asking people for money. Because I believe. I believe in my talents, my storytelling abilities and also the people I surround myself with on the projects that I make," he tells online investing service Wealthsimple.

Take risks and be willing to make mistakes

Self-made millionaire and host of CNBC's "The Profit" Marcus Lemonis says too many people let fear hold them back from making important decisions.
"You're going to fail at something," he says. "Who cares?" Instead of being afraid to take risks, see each opportunity as a way to learn new skills.
As self-made billionaire Richard Branson says, "nobody gets everything right the first time. Business is like a giant game of chess — you have to learn quickly from your mistakes. Successful entrepreneurs don't fear failure; they learn from it and move on."

Elections: Why we will vote for President Buhari – Bus conductors

The Bus Conductors Association of Nigeria (BCAN) has expressed its readiness to re-elect President Muhammadu Buhari in the February general election.

Mr Israel Adeshola, the BCAN National President, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.

Adeshola said that the association was convinced beyond doubt that the only way to guarantee better future for the country was through good governance and sincere leadership.

“The only way to achieve this is for us to collectively ensure that President Buhari return in 2019.

“It takes patience, sacrifice and honest commitment to rebuild what had been destroyed and that’s what the administration has been doing since it took over the helm of affairs.

“We all know that to destroy is very easy but to build is always not easy.

“The last 16 years of past administration witnessed the destruction of our economy as never before in the history of the country.

“The impunity that pervaded the previous administration greatly undermined the economic growth of the nation.

“There is no doubt that President Buhari is genuinely committed to ensuring that Nigeria regains her place as the giant of Africa both economically and politically,” he said.

The BCAN leader said that the association has advised its members to guard their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) jealously as they crave for the return of the president.

“The decision we make today will determine how good or bad our tomorrow will be,” he added.

Adeshola said that now was the time Nigerian citizens must take that crucial decision of tomorrow to ensure better future for ourselves and coming generations.

According to him, Buhari was committed to bettering the lot of Nigerian citizens through sustainable economic programmes aimed at improving social economic conditions of people.

“One of such programme is the empowerment of small scale businesses for sustainable growth and development where many people have benefited.

“President Buhari does not believe in given you fish but to teach you how to fish by yourself so that you can be self reliant, those who give you fish today may not give you tomorrow,” he said.

Adeshola said that Buhari return in 2019 would allow him complete the good work he has started by ensuring the quality of life of an average Nigerian and ensure future of unborn generations were secured and protected.

The BCAN president however called for unity and oneness among its members and the electorate to work as a team, collaborate with one another to ensure comprehensive victory for Buhari.

NAN reports that BCAN has mobilised its members and inaugurated its campaign offices in Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, Oyo, Delta, Kogi, Ondo, Kwara, Jigawa and Kaduna States to mobilise support and ensure the re-election Buhari.

Elections: Ooni warns politicians against violence

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has warned politicians against all forms of violence in the forthcoming general elections.

Oba Ogunwusi gave the warning at the Grand-finale of New Year Prayer Service organised by Christian Association of Nigeria, Ile-Ife Chapter, at Afenworo Park, Enuwa Square, Ile-Ife, on Saturday.

According to Ooni, there is no gain in the shedding of blood, trouble and violence and anyone that died cannot come back to be useful to the society again.

He charged all and sundry to maintain peace and orderliness in the forthcoming elections, saying it is only God that enthrones and put his choice on the throne.

The Royal Father admonished politicians to give peace a chance and allow peaceful coexistence in all ramifications; if truly they want to serve humanity. He advised politicians to desist from do-or-die affairs.

The traditional ruler urged youths to work for their future and run away from politicians who want to misuse them for political violence and selfish interest.

Ooni, however, acknowledged God for His mercy that endures forever over all and sundry.

While congratulating the Christians, he said that their being alive is neither by their power nor by their might, but by the grace of God.

Ooni encouraged Christians to ensure that they are devoted to God by serving Him wholeheartedly and in holiness this year.

He called on Christians to love each other and surrender everything to God, for He alone can do all things.

Five Records Held by CR7 That are Unlikely to be Broken

Cristiano Ronaldo is without doubt one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, with the striker winning multiple titles and awards in his career so far. Here, we take a look at five records held by the superstar that are unlikely to be broken.

5. Scoring 10 goals in UCL for seven consecutive seasons

Cristiano Ronaldo is the all-time leading goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League, netting 121 goals in 158 games and is one of it's most successful, winning five titles in his career so far.

Ronaldo has scored 10 goals in the tournament for seven consecutive seasons as no other player has netted 10 goals or more in two consecutive seasons.

4. Netting 50 plus goals for six consecutive seasons in a top 5 European League

The 33-year-old has scored 50 plus goals for six consecutive seasons in a top five European League, with the striker netting  53, 60, 55, 51, 61 and 51 between 2010/11 and 2015/16. During this time he has scored a total of 331 goals in just 313 games, while his rival Lionel Messi has netted 50 plus goals a number of times, he has managed to net this number consecutively for only three seasons.

3. Most international goals for a European nation by an active player

Cristiano Ronaldo is without doubt the greatest player in Portugal's history and has excelled for his country, scoring 85 goals in 154 games, the most for an active player for a European nation.

With Ronaldo determined to continue playing for his country, there is no doubt that he will add to his tally in the near future.

2. Most goals in a single season in the Champions League

Ronaldo scored 17 goals for Real Madrid in the 2013/14 season which is the highest ever in a single campaign in the Champions League. Infact, he holds the second and third spot too, netting 16 goals in 2015/16 and 15 goals in 2017/18.

Pastor stabbed to death during church service

A Ghanaian pastor, Dr. David Nabegmado, was on Sunday stabbed to death during the church service.

According to a report, the pastor was attacked as he was preparing to leave his inner office for the main church auditorium to preach.

He reportedly died a few hours later, at a nearby medical facility, where he had been rushed for treatment.

The alleged attacker, who has been identified as a nephew of the pastor, is said to have been apprehended by passers-by and some church members and handed over to the police.

The suspect, Francis Nabegmado, spoke with journalists after his arrest and told them that his uncle had tried to kill him several times in spiritual battles.

“My uncle is worshiping lesser gods. He is not a man of God. He has sacrificed all the family people and destroyed everybody” he alleged.

The Tema Regional Police Command has begun investigations into the death of the senior pastor of the Central Assemblies of God Church.
