I am One Of The Greatest Managers in The World - Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has defended his record at Manchester United and insisted he remains one of the best managers in the world.

Mourinho has come in for criticism after a difficult start to the season that has seen United lose to Brighton before suffering a humbling 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham on Monday night.

But he came out fighting in his Friday press conference, saying his past successes mean he is not compared fairly to rival managers like Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino.

"I am the manager of one of the greatest clubs in the world but I am also one of the greatest managers in the world," Mourinho said.

Asked if he would still be able to make that claim should he fail to win a Premier League title with United, Mourinho replied: "Of course.

"Do you ask that question to the manager that finished third in the Premier League last season? To the manager that finished fourth? To the manager that finished fifth?

"I had great success last season. That is what probably you don't want to admit. I analyse my performance myself and for me, it is more important what I think than what you think.

"And for me, I think that two seasons ago we had a fantastic season by winning the Europa League. Last season everyone thought Atletico Madrid were amazing because they won the Europa League after being knocked out of the Champions League. We are the last team in England to win a European competition.

"I won eight titles. I am the only manager that won Italy, Spain and England. And by winning eight titles - not small titles, not small countries, eight proper countries - my second position last season is one of my greatest achievements in football.

"You disagree? You have the right to disagree. That is no problem for me."

The United manager even quoted German philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel when defending his overall record, saying: "Do you read philosophy? Just to give Hegel as an example: the truth is in the whole."

Monday's loss to Tottenham was Mourinho's worst home defeat as a manager and it leaves United 13th in the table, six points behind Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea and Watford, and four behind Manchester City.

After the final whistle, Mourinho delayed going down the tunnel and instead stood in front of the Stretford End applauding the United fans who had stayed until the end, while receiving a largely positive reaction in return.

The warm reception left Mourinho humbled and he says it has helped create a positive mood in the United camp ahead of Sunday's trip to Burnley.

"I know the majority of the stadiums are used to the winning manager jumping around and going to the crowd and putting his face in front of the camera," Mourinho said.

"With me that is not happening. Normally when I win I am the first to leave.

"But after an important defeat at home, that is the way I am. I had to go to the pitch and see the reaction. The reaction could go both ways but it went a way where I felt really humbled and the team felt really supported.

"Probably because of that this week was not a difficult week at all. It was a week where people were positive and convinced that we deserve much more than what we got on Monday.
"We know we have a very difficult match this weekend but people are positive."

Mourinho also confirmed contract talks are ongoing with Anthony Martial but said nothing has yet been agreed between the two parties.
"We have to wait for that to be official because in this moment it is not official," Mourinho said.

His full speech below:

Let me say, once again, how wonderful it is to see so many talented and purposeful young people at this first edition of the Public Dialogue Series with Political Parties on Youth Candidacy and Party Primaries. Looking at you, I see future leaders who present themselves as capable and worthy to take on the mantle of leadership in this country, and this gladdens my heart.

From my interactions with many of you, and with your contemporaries across the country, I can see that we are blessed with a determined generation that stands ready to join with us to power a Nigerian renaissance. The quality of people I see here today affirms my belief that, indeed, you are Not Too Young To Run.

I deeply appreciate this opportunity to share some of my ideas about where we are as a nation, as well as the challenges before us as we approach the great decider that is the 2019 General Elections.

It is widely acknowledged that ours is a relatively ‘young’ country bursting with tremendous energy, ability and potential. More than 70 per cent of our population is under the age of 40. You are indeed the future of this country. Ordinarily, such a young population would be the envy of many Western countries that are faced with ageing populations, but the dire state of our affairs tarnishes the youthful advantage that we have.

Up and down our country today, Nigerians are crying out for succour. Many of our children are hungry. Many people are dying of avoidable or otherwise treatable diseases. Many have fallen below basic living standards, and are now among the 87 million that sealed Nigeria’s position as the country with the highest number of people in extreme poverty. Our young people lack opportunities. The necessary education facilities and system to equip them for the future simply do not exist. We are not creating the jobs needed to usefully engage them in order to grow our economy. And too often, the youth feel shut out, prevented from having any say in the direction of this nation.

The harsh conditions of extreme poverty faced by the people, fuels the state of insecurity all over the country. Hunger, lack of education and lack of opportunities push many Nigerians into criminal activities including terrorism. Many of our communities are paralysed with fear – due to incessant communal crises, kidnappings and other social ills, as well as the threat of terrorism. We are failing abysmally to tackle the problems of today and to prepare for the future.

Our economy is broken and is in need of urgent revival in order for Nigeria to grow. GDP growth rate has declined. Diversification remains an illusion. Unemployment is at an all-time high. Businesses are shutting down. Jobs are being lost in record numbers, and the capital needed to jumpstart our economy is going elsewhere.

Nigeria is perhaps more divided now than ever before. We are increasingly divided along regional, religious and ethnic lines. Nigerians are also divided by class, a festering gulf between the ‘Haves’ and the ‘Have-Nots’. The fault lines of this nation are widening to an alarming degree. We must do something fast, and we must be brave about it.

We must ensure the security of lives in Nigeria. As things stand now, no one is safe in this country. No one feels truly safe. We must restore the sanctity of the rule of law and strengthen democratic institutions in order to build a just, fair and equitable society for all. We must rebuild the trust of our people in government. We need a new generation of leaders that are competent, with the capability to rise to the challenges of the 21st century. We must pull this country back together and rebuild, block by block, with dedication and commitment.

You will agree with me that this is an urgent task that requires the concerted efforts of each and every one of us. If we look around today, what do we see? What is the condition of our citizens? Where are we as a nation? How are we perceived locally and internationally? Why are we not making the expected progress? Why are we not growing? There is no time to waste. The time is now, to come together to stimulate growth in Nigeria, especially in the national economy.

The choice we face in the forthcoming election is either to keep things as they are, or make a radical departure from the old ways. To find a better way of doing things or keep repeating the mistakes of the past. To fix the problems or keep compounding them.

It is with all these in mind, and taking account of the challenges that I have outlined, that I have decided to answer the call of teeming youth who have asked me to run for President. Accordingly, I hereby announce my intention to run for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the coming General Elections in 2019 on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). I do so with the firm conviction that I have what it takes to secure inclusive growth for Nigeria and Nigerians.

My Plan for Nigeria has inclusion in all aspects of the country’s affairs as a central pillar. Every citizen has the inalienable right to feel a sense of belonging, no matter their background or creed, or what part of the country they come from. No matter who you voted for or what your convictions are, government must work for you.

Your generation does not deserve to live in the poverty capital of the world. It is no longer an issue of how we got here, but how do we get out of this situation? I promise you that I will lead the fight and employ every God-given resource available to us in turning things around. I am determined to grow Nigeria out of poverty. We will stimulate the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as one of the ways of energising the economy and to create wealth for our people, especially the youth.

I want to see the youth play major roles at all levels, not only in government but also in the private sector and indeed in every area of Nigerian life. This will be a government driven by youthful energy, innovation and a pioneering entrepreneurial spirit. Nigerian youth will be given all the opportunities to realise their potential to the full within a national framework that guarantees inclusiveness. For youth who have ideas and capacity, we will make sure that there is funding for their ventures; and we shall build on the Made in Nigeria legislation as part of our job creation drive.

My plan is to secure Nigeria by redesigning our national security architecture, while adequately equipping our security agencies to fulfil their primary role of protecting lives and property.

I will address our infrastructural deficit through aggressive financing initiatives including mutually beneficial PPP arrangements, regular floating of bonds and other financial instruments, which will ensure stable, adequate and reliable funding to see to the completion of core projects especially road, rail and power.

My plan is to protect all Nigerians and defend their constitutional rights and freedoms. I will stand for and uphold at all times the principle of the rule of law, which is the bedrock of democratic governance.

Ours will not be a selective fight against corruption. The emphasis will be on strengthening institutions, with a particular focus on deterrence. We cannot afford to compromise our institutions with proxy wars against perceived political opponents. We see the fight against corruption as crucial to Nigeria’s economic development.

I offer leadership driven by empathy. Where leaders are responsive to the citizens. Where they know that government cares. We will not be indifferent or turn a blind eye to the real concerns of our people. Every single Nigerian life matters.

For me, the leadership we deserve is one that will be a source of pride to all Nigerians, one that will be respected and admired in Africa and around the world. It should be a leadership that can hold its own and stand tall anywhere in the world. That is the type of leadership I offer.

As a former two-term Governor and currently President of the Senate by the grace of God, I believe I possess a unique blend of executive and legislative experience to push for and implement reforms that will deliver real improvements in the daily lives of our people. I know what it takes to create jobs and grow the economy. I can make the tough decisions when it matters. I will spearhead a new agenda that can transform the lives of ordinary Nigerians in real terms.

Believe me when I say that it will not be business as usual. This will be a dynamic government of action that will pursue the growth of Nigeria with doggedness, determination and conviction. I will lead a result-driven administration. We shall set targets with clear timelines to ensure that anticipated deliverables are met. You can benchmark us and hold us accountable. In short, I assure you that I will deliver on all promises. What I envision is a new chapter in governance in this country. We will be driven by what is best for Nigerians.

I have deliberately chosen the opportunity of being here with you, my Number One constituency who I see as the future of our great country, to make my intention known. I believe the Nigerian youth are critical to rebuilding and growing the economy, and restoring our national pride.

I therefore ask you and all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with me in this noble cause.

My brothers, My sisters, Let’s Grow Nigeria Together.

God bless you all.

We must get our internal dynamics right in order to win 2019 - President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has charged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to provide the needed leadership and ensure that the party gets its internal dynamics right to ensure “an excellent performance” in the 2019 polls.

Buhari said this in his opening remarks at the National Executive Council meeting of the APC in Abuja on Thursday.

He encouraged party leaders to ensure that decisions taken at the NEC take into account the yearnings and aspirations of party members across the country.

The President observed that the current NEC members assumed duty at a very critical time, especially with the general elections coming very early next year.

Buhari said, “Any political party worth its salt must get its internal dynamics right and march as a team towards a decisive time such as a major election in the country.

“Today, we are meeting to look at some major decisions that will ensure an excellent performance at the polls next year.

“Starting with party primaries at various levels, I urge you all to ensure that decisions taken here are those that will be for the good of the party and meet the yearnings and expectations of our teeming members and supporters nationwide.

“They look up to us for guidance and we must not disappoint or fail them.”

He expressed delight with the way the Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee has handled the crisis within the party, especially at the National Assembly.

Buhari said, “Let me congratulate the current leadership of our party, led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. The team emerged at a turbulent time when there were rumours and speculations of massive defections in such a way that could rock the very foundation of the party.

“Despite reconciliatory attempts to keep the house together, some members were hellbent on pulling down the roof. They left, threatening to go along with scores of people.

“But due to the work of the new party leadership, their exit barely made a dent on our super structure as they could not muster the figure they had envisaged to cause an upset, particularly in the two chambers of the National Assembly.”

The President said the APC remains in control of the legislature and that the party was daily being boosted by the entry of “quality people.”

This, he said, has rekindled hope in the party, which he said was poised to continue to give the nation quality leadership and improve the quality of life of Nigerians.

On the anti-graft war, he said “We will continue to secure the country, fight graft and reposition the economy in such a way that jobs can be provided for our youths and give them a future and hope.

“We will fulfill all the promises we made to Nigerians. We are fulfilling them and will continue to serve with heart and might to build a nation where peace and justice and prosperity shall reign.”

He urged party members acrossthe board to play the game in accordance with the rules, while urging the party leadership to ensure that the forthcoming party primaries are free, fair and credible.

For this to happen, the President noted, the process must comply with provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended); the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution.

Northern Youths for Peace and Security endorse Senator Saraki For President

The Northern Youths for Peace and Security, NYPS, yesterday endorsed Senate President, Bukola Saraki, as their “choicest” candidate for the number one seat in the country in the forthcoming general elections.

The leader of the group, Salisu Magaji, disclosed this at a press conference in Jalingo, capital of Taraba State, after a meeting with key northern youths.

Magaji said that the decision of the group was based on its conviction that the present leadership in the country had failed woefully and Saraki is the most credible person with what it takes to salvage Nigeria from its present abysmal state.

The peace ambassador insisted that Saraki’s track records as the Kwara State governor and his mature handling of the senate as president has made him a highly coveted candidate that the People’s Democratic Party PDP and Nigerians generally should trust with the mandate to save the nation.

“Gentlemen of the press. We are here as the Northern Youths for Peace and Security to endorse president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki as our choicest candidate for the president of Nigeria in 2019.

“We can not shy away from the fact that this country has suffered so much in all ramifications as a result of bad governance.

“The economy is in a very bad shape and the lives of Nigerians have become cheaper than a bag of rice in the market. We are greatly divided along tribal and religious lines and this polarization has dealt us big blows both on the local and international scenes.

“It is, therefore, very important that we elect a very credible leader to take us back to the path of progress and development.

“Saraki has proven himself a very competent and highly detribalized person who can effectively command proactive followership.

“His track records as the governor of Kwara State and as the senate president are here with us. That is why we have united to endorse him and urge him to come out for the presidency of this great country for the 2019 general elections.

“We urge the PDP and all good people of Nigeria to join in this train of change to bring in a tested and trusted leader so that he can bring in his wealth of experience and goodwill to bear in providing the much needed development that would reposition us on the path of progress.”

13. Guys are naturally jealous so it is with ladies.

14. If you want to win his love, make him feel important as if he is the best guy on earth. Treat him like a hero and he will always make you his queen.

The police in Ogun state have arrested a pastor and one other over alleged killing of a woman simply identified as Iya Anu .

Parading the suspects at the Ijoko scene of the incident on Wednesday, Ogun Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, said that the offences committed bordered on conspiracy, murder and ritualism.

Iliyasu explained that on August 10, a complaint was lodged at Agbado Police Divisional headquarters by district head of Igbore Robiyan in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.

The commissioner said the district head reported that a headless decomposing body of a woman was found in an uncompleted building within the community

Nigeria, home to highest number of world’s very poor people –UK Prime Minister

Nigeria is home to the highest number of “very poor people” in the world, Theresa May, prime minister of the United Kingdom, has said.

Speaking in Cape Town, South Africa, on Tuesday, May said Africa is home to a majority of the world’s fragile states, and a quarter of the world’s displaced people.

“Much of Nigeria is thriving, with many individuals enjoying the fruits of a resurgent economy, yet 87 million Nigerians live below $1 and 90 cents a day, making it home to more very poor people than any other nation in the world,” the UK prime minister said.

The prime minister said she wants the UK to become the biggest G-7 investor in Africa by 2022, building around shared prosperity and shared security.

“I am unashamed about the need to ensure that our aid program works for the UK,” May said, adding that a healthy African economy is good news for the UK.

“Today I am committing that our development spending will not only combat extreme poverty, but at the same time tackle global challenges and support our own national interest.”

“It is in the world’s interest to see that those jobs are created, to tackle the causes and symptoms of extremism and instability, to deal with migration flows and to encourage clean growth,” she added.

See why Unilag Denied a Boy Who Scored 322 In JAMB and 9 A1s in WAEC, Admission

David Okorogheye, a student of Starfield College, Fagba, Iju, Lagos wrote the May/June 2018 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), with high hopes that he will pass with flying colours and be granted admission into a university.

With the release of 2018 UTME/WASSCE examination results, he produced an excellent performance and did well in his examinations.

His parents, classmates and close associates believed that he would secure an automatic admission or that his name would be in the merit list of his chosen university, the University of Lagos, Akoka (UNILAG).

However they were wrong.  Despite producing a sterling performance in both examinations, David Okorogheye was denied admission by the University of Lagos on the account of his age.

Just like other universities in Nigeria, the University of Lagos has a criteria that every candidate must be 16 years before he/she can be offered admission into the institution. David Okorogheye didn’t meet this requirement because he is 15 years of age.

In the 2018/2019 admission screening exercise, David will not participate due to age barrier factor.

Mrs Adeosun was alleged to have forged a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate after an investigation by an online newspaper, Premium Times.

Professor Itse Sagay, chairman of Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) had said the minister should not be sacked because ‘she’s damn good’. He further claimed it is irrelevant if she didn’t do the mandatory youth service.

Femi Adesina, a presidential spokesman on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily, stated that the case was not a corruption matter. He further noted that Professor Itse Sagay’s comments were his personal opinion and not the stance of the President.

‘It was a personal comment, that is not the position of the Government and Professor Sagay has a right to his opinion.

“It will not be down the aisle of Professor Sagay to advise on that matter because it is not a corruption matter so to speak.”

Section 13 of the NYSC law prescribes punishment for anyone who absconds from the scheme or forges its certificates, while eligible Nigerians who skipped the service are liable to be sentenced to 12 months imprisonment and/or N2, 000 fine.

Section 13 (3) of the law also prescribes three-year jail term or option of N5, 000 fine for anyone who contravenes the provision of the law as is alleged Mrs Adeosun has done.

Subsection 4 of the same section also criminalises giving false information or illegally obtaining the agency’s certificate. It provides for up to a three-year jail term for such offenders.

Sources have claimed that the Presidency could be considering granting the minister clemency for the forgery case ‘in view of the great works she has done for government — bailing out the country from recession and stabilizing the economy.’

However legal practitioners have countered that, saying only after a conviction can anyone be granted a pardon.

6000 APC, PDP, AD members dump parties for ADC

Nigeria ruling party, All Progressives Congress, the Peoples Democratic Party and the Alliance for Democracy lost a number of their members to African Democratic Congress in Ogun East senatorial district on Monday.

About 6000 members of APC, PDP and AD were welcomed to ADC by the Ogun East Senatorial Chairman of the party, Ladi Odujirin, during an event at ADC’s campaign office in Ijebu Ode.

The defectors were led by Abayomi Mighty, a former member of AD and Nigerian Youth Ambassador to the United Nations.

Mighty disclosed that they defected to their new party because of ADC’s ideology of togetherness and the integrity of key figures in the party.

He said that the ruling party and PDP have lost their ideology and integrity while AD was still being run on old ideas.

Mighty further stated that PDP and APC have proved to be two sides of a coin, hence, the defectors’ resolve to join ADC, which according to him, remained winning party come 2019 election.

The Nigerian Youth Ambassador to the United Nations also mentioned that ADC promise to offer opportunities to youths initiated his defection to the new party.

While welcoming the new members, Odujirin said the party assures them of a level playing field.

Ogun East Senatorial Chairman added that the party was open to any individual or groups who crave for good governance.

Ex-Governor Donald Duke promises legal protection for homosexuals

A former governor of Cross River State Donald Duke has said he will not criminalise same-sex relationships if he becomes Nigeria’s president in 2019.

Duke, a member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party, was the governor of Cross River between 1999 and 2007.

He made the comment while appearing on On The Couch, a show hosted by Laila Johnson-Salami and Falz the Bahd Guy.

“I don’t understand their sexuality,” Duke said. “But I will not criminalise them. I will ensure that they have the protection of the law.”

He did not state how he make the Nigerian law, which currently Nigeria criminalises same-sex relationships, protect gays.

The law enacted in 2014 by the Goodluck Jonathan government prohibits a marriage or civil union by persons of the same sex, the solemnisation of such marriage in places of worship and the registration of homosexual clubs and societies.

It prescribes a 14-year jail term for anyone who enters into a same-sex marriage or union and a 10-year jail term for any person who “operates, participates in gay clubs, societies and organisations, or directly or indirectly makes a public show of same-sex amorous relationship in Nigeria.”

Despite his promise of protecting gays, Duke, however, said there will be no room for homosexuals to engage in public display of affection since that is “an affront on the norms of the society since that is “an affront on the norms of the society.”

When asked if he can appoint a gay person into his cabinet, the presidential aspirant said he would be more concerned about the value an individual will add to his government instead of the person’s sexuality.

“His sexuality is private to him,” he said. “I don’t want to know. It is not my business. My business is can he perform the assignment that has been assigned to him.”

His current players lack the winning mentality and they have sets him 7 unwanted records.

2. This was Man United boss Mourinho’s biggest ever home defeat in all competitions as a manager.

Tottenham Intensify Pressure on Mourinho as Manchester United lose again

Manchester - Manchester United slumped to a second consecutive defeat on Monday to intensify the pressure on manager Jose Mourinho as Harry Kane and a Lucas Moura double moved Tottenham joint top of the Premier League with 3-0 win at Old Trafford.

United now trail Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea by six points and stand four adrift of champions Manchester City just three games into the new campaign.

The odds on Mourinho losing his job have been slashed in recent weeks as he has clashed with the club's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward over a lack of signings.

Mourinho's anger at not being given the funds to boost his centre-back options was exacerbated by the poor showing of Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof in a disastrous defensive showing at Brighton last weekend.

Both paid for that performance by being dropped as Mourinho made six changes in all, although Alexis Sanchez was still left on the bench.

After a week in which Mourinho's ability to turn the tide of negativity at Old Trafford was severely questioned, the Portuguese at least summoned a response from his players for the opening 45 minutes.

United, though, were left to rue a series of missed chances by Romelu Lukaku before Spurs took control with two goals in two minutes just after the break.

Lukaku's biggest chance came after 15 minutes when Danny Rose's short passback put the Belgian clean through on goal, but, after rounding Hugo Lloris, Lukaku pulled his shot wide of the far post.

Lloris was then equal to a tame left-footed effort by the United number nine before Lukaku headed wide his third opening of the half.

Tottenham hadn't even scored in losing on their four previous trips to Old Trafford under Mauricio Pochettino.

Yet, the Argentine's half-time words of wisdom made a huge difference as Spurs came out a different side after the break.

David de Gea had already denied Kane and Dele Alli had seen a goalbound effort deflected wide by the time Kane rose highest from Kieran Tripper's corner to loop a header into the net.

Lloris maintained his place in the side and the captain's armband despite being arrested for drink driving in the early hours of Friday.

And Pochettino's faith in his skipper was rewarded when Lloris denied Lukaku again with a brilliant save to keep Spurs in front.

A minute later, they doubled their advantage when Christian Eriksen's cross was swept home by Lucas.

Mourinho encroached onto the pitch to bellow encouragement to his charges. But the damage had already been done and the final reckoning could have been even more embarrassing for the hosts.

Lindelof, on for the injured Jones, was handed a reprieve when De Gea denied Alli after a short back pass by the Swede before Kane headed wide when unmarked from another corner.

Lucas did rub salt into United wounds six minutes from time when he outpaced Lindelof before firing into the far corner.

Mourinho was goaded with chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning" by the travelling Tottenham fans.

Woodward is not expected to bite the bullet quite so soon. But with United already facing an uphill battle just to make the top four nevermind challenge for the title, time is running out for Mourinho to get the 20-time champions of England back on track.

I'll rebuild Ayefele's Music House —Governor Ajimobi

Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi has assured that the state government will rebuild Yinka Ayefele’s Music House earlier demolished for alleged contravention of the state’s Town Planning Law.

He spoke at a reception organised to mark the 90th birthday of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, on Sunday.

Speaking at the event, Ajimobi said that his “administration will take up the responsibility of rebuilding the N800 Music House, belonging to popular gospel musician, Yinka Adefele, because he does not want his political enemies to use that to attack his administration”.

The Oyo State Government had last week Sunday partially demolished the building, housing Fresh FM, a private radio station also owned by Ayefele, but Ajimobi said the action was to ensure compliance with town planning law.

Top governorship aspirants of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), including; Chief Adeniyi Akintola (SAN); Mr. Soji Eniade; Chief Bayo Adelabu and Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, Isaac Omodewu and Professor Soji Adejumo, were also at the birthday party.

Before the governor’s speech, there had been a mild drama, as Ayefele on arriving at the venue, went to greet Governor Ajimobi, making many guests at the ceremony to hail the popular gospel musician.

This apparently necessitated the assurance by the governor that his administration will rebuild the partially demolished Music House.

Ajimobi, who also hailed the popular gospel musician for his action, said that he has no issue with Ayefele again since last Thursday when a reconciliatory meeting was held.

The governor who explained that his government went against Ayefele for violating town planning law, insisted that the only way to avoid face-off with the law is for every citizen to be law-abiding.

Mourinho insists United come before his future

Manchester - Jose Mourinho insists he is only interested in the future prosperity of Manchester United rather than his own position at the troubled club.

Mourinho has found his future as United manager the subject of much discussion after a tempestuous period, dating back to a frustrating close-season transfer window.

That led to conjecture that Mourinho was not happy with the efforts of executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, who handles player signings at Old Trafford.

Equally damaging has been Mourinho's relationship with star player Paul Pogba, which has come under close scrutiny after comments made by the France midfielder.

Mourinho was in particularly dour and uncooperative mood ahead of his team's Premier League meeting with Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham on Monday, although, in one of his few talkative moments, he did reveal his gratitude for the support shown by fans over the first two games of the season.

"The supporters were fantastic in both matches," said Mourinho. "Not for me, for the team which is the only thing that matters.

"In my career I was never selfish and thinking about myself, I was always a club man.

"That's what I am. I am really happy when the supporters they support the team. Against Leicester, you can say in a normal situation because the team was playing well and was winning.

"But to be supportive of the team against Brighton, where we didn't play well and lost the match, it gives you a fantastic feeling.

"I hope that feeling, the players also feel it and the players they are ready to give them everything they have."

WINNING STYLE

Mourinho refused to discuss even the most banal of topics with the media, other than to claim that he was not left frustrated by the defeat at Brighton last weekend.

"No, it is not a frustration because it would also be a frustration if we win every match against the non top-six team and don't win against the top six, that would also be a frustration," he said.

"We want to win all the time. We want to play well all the time. We don't want to make mistakes. That is what you always want.

"We want a winning style. Don't make defensive mistakes. Be dominant. Chances, score goals and go home with the three points."

Mourinho has clearly been unhappy with the coverage the mainstream media has provided of his club over the past few months - especially a disappointing transfer market and his obviously tricky relationship with key figures at Old Trafford.

And, in response, Mourinho refused to address the issue of whether or not he had entered the new season with a squad that was to his satisfaction.

"You know my answer," said Mourinho.

"I do not need to answer because I do not even know sometimes why I am here because you know everything.

"During the week it looks like you show that you know everything then I come here and you ask me questions. It's a bit strange."

Even when United's hapless press officer attempted to move the line of questioning onto the meeting with Tottenham, Mourinho refused to play ball or discuss Pochettino's side.

When asked for his opinion on Spurs' failure to strengthen their squad this summer, he snapped: "It is not my problem."

PDP needs strong candidate to defeat Buhari - Makarfi

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) must field a string candidate to stand any chance of defeating President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, one of its presidential aspirants Senator Ahmed Makafi has stated.

Makarfi said Buhari, who is expected to be the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, still commands a strong followership in the North, which has the highest number of voters.

The presidential hopeful declared the PDP must work on the psychology of voters in the northern part of the country many of whom he said “still retain blind followership for Buhari.”
Makarfi spoke at the weekend when he visited Ekiti PDP delegates led by Deputy Governor Prof Kolapo Olusola at Jibowu Hall, Government House, Ado-Ekiti in continuation of consultations on his presidential ambition ahead of the party’s national convention.

He argued he is eminently qualified for the presidency having served as Kaduna governor for eight years and being in the senate for two terms during which he chaired the Committee on Finance and became PDP National Caretaker Chairman.

The former Kaduna governor promised to tackle insurgency, herdsmen killings, insecurity, unemployment, epileptic power supply, infrastructural challenges and other problems confronting the nation.

Makarfi said the sectarian problems and security challenges facing the country confronted Kaduna State during his tenure but he was able to overcome them with tact, consensus building and deployment of resources.

He said the PDP must win very well in the North to make any headway in the presidential election, adding the party must present the candidate the people of the region repose trust in.

Makarfi said: “If we want to the election, we must not lose the North and we should give them the candidate they trust in the North.
“The problem for us winning is the North; the current President comes from there and there is blind followership there. If we want to win, we should field a strong candidate from there.

“We must work on the psychology of the Buhari’s sentimental followers in the North and change their mind towards us.” On his manifesto, Markafi said: “First of all is the restructure of the country to make it good for everybody, restructuring of the security and creation of jobs and infrastructure development in all respects and promoting the private sector so that it can become effective employer of labour.
“I am straight forward person and do not say one thing in the morning and turn it another thing in the evening.
“We brought back PDP and made it now a threat to APC. I restructured Kaduna and Nigeria needs restructuring. I am not talking politics.
“I was the architect of the first political sovereign conference in the country as head of the committee under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
“Institutional restructuring that would include the police, INEC and other security apparatus to ensure they do not serve the dictates of the paymasters will be done by me.”
He added: “We must make our institutions to be accountable. We will ensure comprehensive restructuring of this country. I chose to travel by road for all my campaigns traveling by road is taking eighty percent of my tour.
“This is to enable me see the deficiencies of our infrastructure, such as roads, condition of our people and our environment among others.
“We will also restructure power generation, what is on ground now is unitary. We must liberalize it. Each state will be allowed to generate its own electricity.”

No automatic ticket for Senator Dino Melaye – PDP

Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi west senatorial district have ruled out automatic tickets for aspirants in the 2019 general election.

Senator Dino Melaye, who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP, is the lawmaker representing the district at the senate.

The decision not to give any aspirants automatic ticket was reached at a meeting which held at the Aiyetoro-Gbedde residence of David Jemibewon, a retired major general and member of the PDP board of trustees (BoT).

Unai Emery gets first win as Arsenal battle back to beat West Ham

Unai Emery admitted Arsenal are still a work in progress as they came from behind to clinch a 3-1 victory against West Ham that ended their new manager's wait for his first Premier League points.

Emery's side had lost the first two games of the post-Arsene Wenger era against Manchester City and Chelsea in the club's worst start to a Premier League campaign since 1992.

They were on the verge of more unwanted history after Marko Arnautovic gave West Ham a surprise lead at the Emirates Stadium.

A defeat would have made this the first Arsenal side to lose their opening three fixtures for 54 years.

But, while Emery's team were dismal in defence, they possessed just enough attacking quality to stage a much-needed fightback.

Nacho Monreal equalised before half-time and West Ham defender Issa Diop deflected influential substitute Alexandre Lacazette's shot into the net after the interval.

Danny Welbeck came off the bench to wrap up the points in stoppage-time.

But Arsenal's inconsistent performance suggests Emery still has much to work on as the Spaniard aims to restore his new club to the top four after last season's sixth-place finish.

"We are happy with the first three points after two defeats, but it's clear we need to improve," said Emery, who dismissed reports he had fallen out with Mesut Ozil after the flu-stricken German missed the match.

"It was a difficult match. We need to continue working to not concede many chances. We have to see the reasons why we conceded so many.

"We need the balance with the midfielders. We suffered on the transition many times."

Accentuating the positives of Arsenal's spirited comeback, Emery added: "We improved in the second half and controlled more like we want. We showed that in difficult periods we can win."

West Ham's third successive defeat under new manager Manuel Pellegrini makes it the worst start by a Hammers boss since Avram Grant lost his opening four league games of the 2010/11 season.

Pellegrini's side sit bottom of the table and the Chilean said: "I'm not happy with the result but I'm happy with the performance.

"It was what I demanded of the players. We will win more games than we lose if we play like this.

"I don't think Arsenal created much, we created twice as much as them."

Pellegrini's men snatched the lead with a 25th-minute goal that showed Emery hasn't erased the defensive woes that ailed Arsenal in last years of Wenger's reign.

When Felipe Anderson took possession in midfield, he was able to advanced unchecked towards the Arsenal penalty area, where he fed a pass into Arnautovic.

Aided by the lethargic reaction of Arsenal defenders Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Arnautovic had time and space to drill a low drive past Petr Cech from the edge of the area.

Jolted into action by that shock setback, Arsenal were level within five minutes.

Breaking onto Henrikh Mkhitaryan's pass down the right flank, Hector Bellerin whipped over a cross that ran through to Monreal at the far post, where the left-back lashed home from close-range to cap a fine 17-pass move.

Benefitting from more astonishingly slack defending, Robert Snodgrass should have put West Ham ahead when he ran clear on goal, but the midfielder let Arsenal off the hook with a tame effort.

Crucially, Arnautovic squandered two chances to restore West Ham's lead with sloppy finishes early in the second half.

Lacazette's half-time introduction had revitalised Arsenal and the forward drew a good stop from Lukasz Fabianski with a stinging strike.

Arsenal's pressure was rewarded in the 70th minute when Lacazette controlled well on his chest and swivelled for a shot that cannoned off Diop and into his own net.

Arsenal finished well on top and Welbeck tapped in from Bellerin's pass with the Hammers defence in tatters

Yinka Ayefele: Governor Ajimobi said he would have Stopped the demolition if we had begged him

Yinka Ayefele, a musician, says the meeting with Abiola Ajimobi, governor of Oyo state, on Thursday was more or less a set-up by the governor’s team.

Yinka Ayefele  said he demanded a private meeting with the governor but was shocked when pictures of his team and that of the governor surfaced online a few minutes into the meeting.

The pictures drew the ire of Ayefele’s supporters who felt he succumbed to begging over the demolition of his Music House by the government.

But the musician, who spoke through David Ajiboye, his publicist, said he had to come to the public to the records straight.

Ajiboye said Ajimobi told them that he could have saved the situation if only they had come to beg him.

“On Thursday, we were at a meeting organised by the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) at Golden Tulip when we got a call from one of the governorship aspirants in the state. He told us that the governor would like to see us,” he said.

“I was at the BON meeting with Yinka Ayefele and his younger brother. We felt that since they were the ones that invited us, we should honour the governor’s call; so we excused ourselves from the BON meeting and went to the governor’s office.

“We got there at about 12pm but the governor did not get to his office till about 4pm. We did not leave the governor’s office until about 7pm. I was at the meeting with Yinka Ayefele and his younger brother.

“When the governor came into the office, we all prostrated to greet him being that he is older than us and we told them that we did not want cameras. We wanted a closed-door meeting with the governor so he asked the pressmen to excuse us but his private photographer did not leave the room. We noticed that while we were talking with the governor, the photographer was taking our pictures and uploading them on their Twitter handle immediately.

“The governor later invited his team to come and join us in the meeting; his team comprised the commissioner for information, a governorship aspirant in the state and about four special assistants. The governor told us his grievances. He told us that he could have saved the situation if only we had come to see him. He felt we ought to have come to beg him, and our chairman, Yinka Ayefele, pointed it out that we had since told the commissioner for information to book an appointment with the governor.

He further said that he called the SSG to help him book an appointment with the governor even before this incident happened and the commissioner corroborated his claims but said that the governor was unavailable at the time.”
Ajiboye said role of traditional rulers in the meeting was a coincidence as they were in the governor’s office as of the time Ayefele and Ajimobi met.

“Coincidentally, there were about ten monarchs who were also waiting to see the governor as at the time we were waiting for him,” he said.

“They were led by the alaafin of Oyo; so when the obas saw Ayefele, they decided to rally round him. After they had met with the governor, they came back to meet Ayefele and possibly plead on his behalf to the governor.

“That was when they allowed the cameramen to enter and we felt it was more or less a set-up because we wanted a close -door meeting. We did not want cameras but there was nothing we could do because we were at the governor’s office.

“The monarchs appealed to the governor to help Ayefele rebuild the music house. After the monarchs left, the governor also left us with his team and told us to iron things out with them. They claimed that they wrote several letters to us but that we ignored them; they went ahead to say that we did not have a certificate of occupancy for the building and we showed them all the proof.

“They all agreed except one commissioner who said that we have to do damage control because we have dented his personality and that of Oyo state government. We had to tell him that it was beyond us because we did not ask people to abuse their government. If they had not demolished the Music House, people would not lay curses on the government.

“That was what happened at the meeting. The governor’s team said they would get across to the governor on Thursday night to brief him and they would get back to us. We would wait for what the outcome of their meeting with the governor would be. We are not taking any position now.”
