Oyo opens Eid praying grounds, says social distancing is compulsory

Oyo opens Eid praying grounds, says social distancing is compulsory
Oyo State Government, on Thursday, said Muslim Praying Grounds across the state will be opened for the 2020 Eid-el-Kabir prayers, warning that Muslim faithful must ensure strict compliance with COVID-19 protocols in the state.

According to the government, it has become imperative for the sake of public health and wellbeing of all worshipers that the Eid prayers are conducted in strict compliance with the guidelines on prevention of COVID-19.

The government urged the leadership of each praying ground in the state to ensure availability of hand wash points and compulsory use of nose masks

A statement sgned by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Taiwo Adisa, indicated that part of the protocols that must be observed during the Eid kabir festivity include observance of the social distancing rule by allowing only 25 per cent of worshippers at every instance.

The statement read: “As the Muslim Ummah prepare to undertake this year’s Eid-el-Kabir prayers, the Government of Oyo State wishes to advert Islamic clerics and leaders to the need to maintain strict compliance with COVID-19 protocols, especially the social distancing rule.

The Governor reckoned that prayers are important to overcome the challenges that presently assail us, especially the COVID-19 pandemic.

To further ensure safety and ownership of the Covid-19 preventive measures, the Emergency Operations Centre, EOC, of the Oyo State Covid-19 Task Force, has sent advisories to major markets and shopping malls, on the need for strict compliance with Covid-19 preventive protocols during this festive period and beyond.

In addition to these measures, all clerics and leaders are expected to take on the responsibility of guiding the people to pay attention to even the minutest detail on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during this festivity.

SALLAH MESSAGE: PRESIDENT BUHARI COMMENDS MUSLIMS, CHRISTIANS FOR UNDERSTANDING OVER COVID-19 GUIDELINES

SALLAH MESSAGE: PRESIDENT BUHARI COMMENDS MUSLIMS, CHRISTIANS FOR UNDERSTANDING OVER COVID-19 GUIDELINES
President Muhammadu Buhari reiterates his call on Nigerians to continue to exercise patience and understanding over the inconveniences created by precautionary measures taken for Covid-19, especially the regulations on places of worship.

In his Sallah message to Muslims on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir celebration, President Buhari said the outbreak of coronavirus has made it difficult for people to gather in places of worship as they are used to, urging worshipers to abide by the guidelines for safety of their lives, and loved ones.

“The coronavirus has had devastating adverse impacts on our social, economic and spiritual lives.

“The preventive guidelines we have introduced to contain the spread of this deadly disease have unfortunately limited people's freedom to gather and worship in large numbers in Mosques and Churches.

“Every measure that has been introduced to contain this disease may have its unintended consequences on the daily lives of our people, and I, therefore, call on Muslims and other faithfuls to continue to show more understanding with the government as we take correct steps to protect our people through the social distancing.

“No elected government would intentionally take away its people's religious freedom by limiting the number of people that will gather in worship centres at the same time.

“The guidelines are dictated by necessity in order to safeguard public health and should, therefore, not be perceived as infringement on people's right to worship.’’

President Buhari commended the sacrifices of Muslims and Christians in abiding by the COVID-19 guidelines for the good of society, assuring that: “On our own part, we shall continue to provide economic reliefs to the people to minimize the unintended hardships these guidelines have inflicted.’’

The President reminded worshippers that COVID-19 is a worldwide affliction with Churches and Mosques closed around the world, while social distancing has been imposed to safeguard public health.

While wishing Muslims a happy celebration, the President called on worshipers not to forget the symbolic significance of the sacrifices of the Eidel Kabir.

“Muslims should imbibe the noble virtues of our great prophets in order to establish closer connectivity between religious teachings and practice.

“We can create the greatest impact by putting into practice the noble teachings of our religion. In whatever we do in life, we must put the fear of God in our daily activities in order to make our society better.’’

The President reminded Nigerians of his efforts to root out corruption in the country, stating that the efforts had so far brought a lot of changes in the country’s polity.

He appealed for more support and understanding as investigations are carried out on both legacy and fresh cases.

Comrade Oshiomole’s u-turn on Osagie Ize-Iyamu a great insult on Edo people – Governor Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer in the forth coming Governorship election in Edo state, Governor Godwin Obaseki, has no opponent.

Speaking as a guest on a live television programme today, Governor Wike said that the people of Edo state already know the type of candidate the All Progressives Congress (APC) is presenting going by what Adams Oshiomhole said of him four years ago.

“Adams Oshiomhole told Edo people that Ize Iyamu was rusticated from school; that he poured acid on a fellow student that destroyed his manhood. That he is an armed robber that cannot be trusted with money.

“Such a character cannot be accepted by Edo people as Governor during the election.

“I respect the Benin tradition and I know that Edo people are educated to know that Oshiomhole cannot play on their intelligence. If he is now retracting what he said of Ize Iyamu, who is sure that he’s saying the correct thing now.

“Adams Oshiomole’s sudden u-turn is a great insult on Edo people. This is an opportunity for Edo people both at home and in the diaspora to use their votes to tell Oshiomole they cannot take his lies anymore.

“From all indications, it is obvious that there is no strong opposition against Obaseki and he will win convincingly”, he said.

Governor Wike who is the Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council stated that he and his team accepted the responsibility to lead the campaign because they are satisfied with results coming out already from Edo State.

Governor Wike stated that the PDP has continued to take steps in strengthening the nation’s democracy.

According to him, the Party does so with the promotion of internal politics and resolving conflict of interests of members to achieve common goals.

He noted the success recorded by the PDP in conducting free and fair party primaries in Edo state.

The Governor said all the aspirants decided to work together to support the candidature of Governor Godwin Obaseki who is the party’s flag bearer.

“It was not easy to have a sole candidate for the Party in Edo state. People thought there will be problems, given the fact that Obaseki was coming from another Party. But Party members who are grounded and believe in the Party didn’t see any sacrifice too much to make.

“Even in Ondo State, the former Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, who decamped to PDP contested keenly during the primaries and lost . If there are other pending issues in the South West, be sure that the Party will resolve them.

“That is exactly what Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as the chairman of South-South States’ Governors had done. He is making sure that we are all on the same page to ensure that all states in the South-South are controlled by PDP,” he stated.

BUHARI'S ANTICORRUPTION FIGHT INTACT - LAI MOHAMMED

BUHARI'S ANTICORRUPTION FIGHT INTACT - LAI MOHAMMED
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, says the fight against corruption by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is as strong as ever, even as there are ongoing corruption allegations in strategic government agencies like EFCC, NDDC and NSITF.

The minister, who stated this while addressing Journalists today in Abuja, attributed the corruption allegations against the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, to the previous administrations.

He said it is ironic that those under whose watch the alleged freewheeling spending by the Commission started are now the ones accusing those who are cleaning up the mess they left behind.

Alhaji Mohammed maintained that the administration has so far recorded over 1,400 convictions, including high profile ones, and recovered funds in excess of N800 billion, not to talk of forfeiture of ill-gotten properties.

According to him, the fight against corruption is not about loot recovery or convictions alone, saying that the administration was also putting in place enduring institutional reforms that will deter acts of corruption.

Edo 2020: Esan people set to humiliate Oshiomole for dethroning royal father.

Edo 2020: Esan people set to humiliate Oshiomole for dethroning royal father.
Convener of the group, Esan Agenda, Mr.  Akhere Obozele, has advised the Adams Oshiomhole-backed candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osagie Ize-Iyamu to suspend his aspiration of becoming Edo State governor, in order to save him the humiliation Esan people have reserved for the sacked APC national chairman.

Obozele, said “the odds against the APC candidate increased the moment the sacked APC national chairman threw his weight behind him"

According to him, “For Esan people, this election is first about a governor that has worked so hard, and in the people’s estimation, deserves a second term in office. Beyond Governor Godwin Obaseki’s second term ticket, which Obaseki will get without much ado, come September 19, 2020, this election is also about the redemption of Esan people from the series of humiliation meted on us by Oshiomhole.”

He added: “This is the Esan consensus. Nothing will change this. After relegating and humiliating Esan people for the eight years he was governor, Oshiomhole set up a structure that he designed to relegate us to political irrelevance in the state and that would ensure an Esan man or woman never gets even a deputy governorship position in another 16 years by pairing Obaseki with Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu.

“When he realised that Obaseki and Shaibu couldn’t be used to accomplish his hate-laced plan, Oshiomhole chose Gani Audu as running mate to the current APC governorship candidate. In, his calculation that Ize-Iyamu will be governor for eight years after which his fellow Etsako man, Audu will take over as governor for yet another eight years of two terms. If that were to happen, Esan people would have been kept out of Government House for 36 years, between 1999-2036, (save for the one year and six months, Prof. Oserieme Osunbor was governor).

Mr. Obozele explained: “Between 1999 and 2007, we had Lucky Igbinedion, a Benin man, as governor, for eight years; between May 29, 2007-Nov. 2008, we had Prof. Osunbor, an Esan man, who was in office for one year and six months. From 2008-2016, we had Oshiomhole’s eight years, an Etsako man. So if Oshiomhole could stop Obaseki, a Benin man after four years, God forbid, 2006-2020, and then have Ize-Iyamu, a Benin man  for eight years (2020-2028) and Gani Audu, an Etsako man, for eight years 2028-2036, the Esan people would have been relegated politically, beyond redemption for 36 years out of the 37 years and some months of our return to democracy (1999 to 2036).

By 2036, Gani Audu would have completed Oshiomhole’s anti-Esan political calendar for Edo State and perhaps his first circle of inexplicable hatred for Esan people, yet he denies being a godfather.”

With Obaseki in the saddle, Esan people have seen redemption from Oshiomhole’s shenanigans and we will do everything to snatch this opportunity which Obaseki’s second term has given us.

So in summary, Obaseki’s second term is by way of expression, a liberation move for Esan people, because after him, we will produce the governor.

“Also very important to us is Oshiomhole’s desecration of our long held traditions and customs. He dethroned and humiliated our Onojie of Uromi and we will use the lifetime opportunity given to us at the polls to dethrone and humiliate him and his candidate on election day.

“Again, it was Obaseki who took that terrible insult, shame and humiliation away from our faces. The least we owe Obaseki in this election, is for all Esan sons and daughters to go to the polls and vote against APC candidate and his godfather. That way we will be telling Obaseki, thank you sir, we appreciate your good heart.”

Traffic 'll now Improve around Allen Avenue, Maryland, Ikotun Axes, Sanwo-Olu assures Commuters

Traffic 'll now Improve around Allen Avenue, Maryland, Ikotun Axes, Sanwo-Olu assures Commuters
•Gov Excited At New Designs In Six Gridlock-Prone Junctions

•Says 10 More To Be Completed Soon

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, spent an ample time, weekend, at the popular Allen Junction on Obafemi Awolowo Way in Ikeja, monitoring flow of vehicular traffic at the newly re-designed junction.

The Governor expressed satisfaction with the new layout of the ever-busy junction, following the removal of a broad roundabout to create seamless flow of traffic.

The Allen Junction is one of the vulnerable spots across the metropolis notorious for vehicular logjam due to the roundabout, which was identified as an impediment to free flow of traffic.

In line with his administration’s traffic management agenda, Sanwo-Olu awarded contracts for the re-designing and construction of the identified traffic-prone spots across the State. Sixteen highways are currently undergoing re-construction and junction improvements.

Three of the six junctions captured in the first phase of road improvement programme have been completed. They are Allen Junction, Ikotun Roundabout, and Maryland Junction. Work is almost completed on three roundabouts in Lekki and Ajah of Eti-Osa area of the State.

Sanwo-Olu said the State Government considered the road improvement programme as one that would relieve commuters of burden of heavy traffic, stressing that the aim was to reduce journey time and increase productivity.

He said: “I am particularly excited that the famous Allen Roundabout is a lot more befitting now, with the new design and road furniture we have put in place. This project is now completed and there is no need for a formal handover because the junction is ever busy. What is now required of those plying the road is maintenance of the road furniture, because it is a new better experience for the road users.

“Apart from re-designing the junction, there are light traffic cameras installed on this junction from where we can remotely monitor what is happening on this axis any time of the day. These are parts of the improvement we have brought on this road and others we are re-designing. This is one of the promises we made to residents, that we would make travel time better and rewarding. From my observation so far, I can see the improvement in journey time.”

It was not only the roundabout that was removed at the Allen Junction, the Government also widened the junction with the creation of pedestrian walkways, zebra crossing, setbacks and laybys for commercial buses to carry and drop passengers.

The junction perimeter has also been adorned with lawns to reinforce the aesthetics of the area.

“Now, the junction has a better ambience. What it means is that, people don’t need to get to the Allen Junction to make a detour. We have resolved the conflict and we will ensure the installed traffic signals keep working every time,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The Governor expressed satisfaction on the re-designing of the Ikotun roundabout, which, he said, has led to improvement of traffic flow in the area. He also visited Maryland Junction on Mobolaji Bank-Anthony Way where an improvement had made to diffuse traffic gridlock.

While assessing ongoing re-designing of roundabouts at Lekki, Sanwo-Olu promised road users that the project would be completed in the next two weeks.

Akpabio names lawmakers on NDDC contracts’ list

Akpabio names lawmakers on NDDC contracts’ list
The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has linked some members of the National Assembly to some contracts awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission.

Akpabio, however, did not state if the lawmakers were directly awarded the contracts or they nominated the projects under their Zonal Intervention Projects, also known as constituency projects.

The former Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on the NDDC, Mr Nicholas Mutu, who represents the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency of Delta State, is among those linked by the minister with contracts.

The minister listed Mutu’s name against 74 projects, including various emergency road projects in Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Rivers states.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had on February 3, 2020, arraigned Mutu before Justice Folashade Giwa-Ogunbanjo of the Federal High Court in Abuja for alleged abuse of office and fraud involving about N320m.

Akpabio also linked the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi (Delta-North), with 53 projects, which included emergency repairs of Asue Street, Owa Phase 2; ldumuogbe Road via Ojemaye; Otolokpo College Road, Otolokpo; and the Police lshu Ani Ukwu Road, Issele Uku.

Other lawmakers that Akpabio listed projects against are Senator Matthew Urhoghide (Edo-South), six; James Manager (Delta-South), six; Samuel Anyanwu (Imo-West, 8th Senate), 19; and others simply identified as Ondo and Edo Reps.

The minister, however, did not provide the cost of the projects listed against the lawmakers’ names, while the cost of contracts given to non-lawmakers had costs of various projects attached to them.

Our correspondents also observed that contracts listed against the names of the lawmakers were not up to 60 per cent of the 266 on the list provided by Akpabio.

Boko Haram: 601 ex-insurgents finish de-radicalisation programme in Gombe

The Nigerian Army on Saturday released 601 ex-Boko Haram members after undergoing six months de-radicalisation, rehabilitation and reintegration (DRR) programme in Gombe State.

The graduation ceremony of the ex-insurgents took place on Saturday at Malam Sidi community in Kwami Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking during the event, Bamidele Shafa, the Coordinator of Operation Safe Corridor (OSC), said the ex-insurgents were ready to be re-integrated into the society.

Shafa, a major-general, said the graduating batch four clients were admitted in December 2019 and within the six months undertook a comprehensive medical test to ascertain their health status that enabled their proper care.

According to him, out of the 606 clients received into the camp; 601 were graduating, three died, one was withdrawn from the programme while the last one was transferred to the Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Maiduguri.

He explained that the three that died was as a result of the terminal sicknesses they already had before coming to camp, while the one withdrawn was on disciplinary grounds for further investigation.

The OSC coordinator also said that the clients graduating for re-integration into the society comprised 587 Nigerians and 14 foreign nationals from Cameroon, Chad and Niger Republic.

He added that the clients had appeared before a quasi-judicial panel, which according to him was a major requirement, before their reintegration into the society.

He stated that the essence of the panel was for the clients to denounce membership of Boko Haram and the Islamic State’s West Africa Province, confess their past misdeeds and take an oath of allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He said that the huge number of clients who willingly surrendered to the Federal Government’s programme was a good sign of peace for the country.

In his remarks, the Chief of Defence Staff, Abayomi Olonisakin, said the DRR programme was a working strategy complementing the efforts of the Federal Government toward restoring peace in the Northeast.

Olonisakin, represented by Vincent Okeke, the Director of Education, Defence Headquarters, said the clients acquired different skills and would be provided funds and starter packs to enable them earn a living and start new lives.

The CDS commended the Federal Government’s efforts in ensuring peace and called on ” Boko Haram and ISWAP members still lurking around in the bush to lay down their arms, embrace peace and join the DRR programme.”

Also speaking, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, said the Federal Government was committed to the peace and the development of the Northeast.

Umar-Farouq represented by her Head of Special Services, Nadia Mohammed, said that the Federal Government’s commitment to peace led to the establishment of the Northeast Development Commission.

”The commission was established to expedite the rehabilitation and the development of the Northeast,” she said.

Also, Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno lauded the Federal Government’s efforts in the de-radicalisation of ex-insurgents to make them better members of the society.

Zulum represented by his Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Kaka Lawan, said that the Borno Government was ready to welcome those willing to surrender and give peace a chance.

”Those refusing to surrender, I want to assure you that their days are numbered as the armed forces will soon get them,” he said.

On behalf of the clients, Babagana Mai-Ramri appreciated the Federal Government and the Borno State Government for efforts towards making ex-insurgents useful to the society.

While promising to be good ambassadors of the country, Mai-Ramri appealed to those still fighting in the bush to denounce their membership of the terrorist group and embrace peace.

Sanwo-Olu Inspects Work on Third Mainland Bridge, Urges Motorists on Patience

Sanwo-Olu Inspects Work on Third Mainland Bridge, Urges Motorists on Patience
•600 Mass Transit Buses Coming In August - Gov

•Pen Cinema Bridge Gets October Completion Date

Patience - that is all motorists plying the partially shut Third Mainland Bridge need to bear while meandering through the carriageways, as the Federal Government repairs the failed segments of the bridge.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made the appeal to commuters on Saturday, while on an inspection of the bridge and alternative routes rehabilitated by the State Government.

The Governor also toured various highways where junctions and roundabouts have been redesigned to diffuse traffic, including Allen Junction, Maryland Junction, and Lekki’s first and second roundabouts, among others.

Sanwo-Olu said the bridge’s repair was long overdue and could no longer be postponed as it would portend danger to the residents. The Governor urged motorists to be patient and cooperate with traffic management personnel deployed on the routes, while assuring that the Government would ensure speedy work on the bridge.

Besides, Sanwo-Olu urged commuters to explore the option of waterways as faster alternative. He said the State Government has strengthened the capacity of the ferry services and currently building six additional jetties across the State.

The Governor said: “I am here to supervise the repair activities and to monitor the effect of the closure of the bridge on the vehicular movement, with the aim to enable us focus on where improvement could be made. However, what we need to communicate to the road users is patience. Our traffic management officers are on ground to make their journey hitch-free.
“The contractor handling the repair work will be fully on site by Monday. In the next three months, repair work would have been completed on the first lane, while they will move to the other lane. While we urge road users for patience, we also advise them to look at the option of waterways transportation in commuting to and from the Island. We have just opened the Ilaje jetty for public use and we are delivering additional six jetties across the State to ease movement.”

While inspecting the newly designed Allen Junction on Obafemi Awolowo Way, the Governor said he was satisfied with the project, expressing optimism that the new layout would relieve the highway of gridlock.

Sanwo-Olu disclosed that the State Government, by August, would roll out 600 buses to ply various routes, including Ikorodu, Abule Egba-Oshodi, and Ikeja.

“We are rolling out 600 buses in high and medium capacity. The buses will be deployed next month and they will be seen across busy roads. The medium capacity buses will be plying Obafemi Awolowo Way. Oshodi inward Abule Egba will be priority. We will also be increasing bus capacity from Ikorodu to Tafawa Balewa Square,” he said.

The Governor used the opportunity to explain the slow pace of work on some ongoing capital projects, including the Pen Cinema Bridge in Agege, which, he said, was disrupted by Coronavirus pandemic.

The Pen Cinema Bridge, he said, would now be delivered in October.

The Governor was accompanied on the long-hour tour by some cabinet members, including the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, his Transportation counterpart, Dr. Fredric Oladehinde, Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye, and Special Adviser on Transport, Hon. Toyin Fayinka.

Sanwo-Olu also inspected drainage at Eric Moore Road, Eko Bridge and Lekki-Epe Expressway.

Fraudster Bags 20 Years For Defrauding A Taiwanese

Fraudster Bags 20 Years For Defrauding A Taiwanese
A 30-year-old fraudster, Gabriel Adekola Oluokun, has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, Oyo State for defrauding a Taiwanese to the tune of $22,300 (Twenty-Two Thousand, Three Hundred United States Dollars).

The convict was prosecuted by the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a six-count amended charge of obtaining money by false pretence for which he was found guilty and convicted.

Oluokun’s journey to prison started when the Commission received a petition from one Nduka Lucious in which he alleged that the convict collected the sum of $22,300 from him in three instalments on the agreement that he will supply 100 metric tonnes of sesame seed to one Victoria Xhung, a China-based Taiwanese businesswoman, whom the petitioner represents in Nigeria.

While the convict failed to deliver, he converted the sum to his personal use.

On conclusion of investigations, he was arraigned on April 6, 2018 on a six-count charge of obtaining money by false pretences to which he pleaded not guilty and was re-arraigned on June 15, 2020 on a six-count amended charge for the same offence, for which he was convicted on Thursday.

Aside the prison term, the convict is to restitute his victim,  the sum of $22,300, with the caveat that the jail term will be extended by additional two years if he fails to make the repayment.
He also forfeited his Toyota Corolla saloon car to the Federal government.

How To Be The Best Firstborn Child

How To Be The Best Firstborn Child
Written by: Justin Akadonye

Sometimes you just feel  you carry all the weight on your shoulders. It is as though all the burdens were placed on you. So much responsibilities, so much to do!

Sighs! In Nigeria and most african countries being the first child of one's parents comes with a Herculean task of keeping the family together, afloat, happy and satisfied.
It starts quite early enough in your growing-up years.

I remember how my brother was practically playing dad and baby-sitter when my parents would go out. It then went to getting the best grades so as to be exemplary to your younger siblings.

Then in later years, you are practically the breadwinner in most Nigerian homes, especially where the other kids are not so well-to-do. You're expected to send monthly stipends for aged parents, repair leaking roofs and  offset other maintenance  costs of your family house.

You are even the benefactor for your siblings fees at school, allowances and other expenses. It even gets worse when they feel it is their right or entitlement to stay with you and enjoy lounging at your place. After all, it is their big brother's house.

For firstborns with deceased parents, you're the one to be called during family meetings, financial contributions and considerations. They never miss a beat to always summon you. Why not? You're the man or woman in charge, as the case may be.

The truth is we cannot play God, or assume roles that may perpetually drown us. After all, there is just one life to live.

You should remember to be selfish sometimes and meet your own needs, because sometimes you just might be existing and not living.
What stops you from getting another degree? What stops you from building your own house.

The siblings will not die, if you learnt how to say no sometimes.
Rightfully so, they are their own persons and will live, even after you develop that high blood pressure and wane away slowly.

Your life is yours, live it! You're just another child among your other siblings.

We’re glad to have Yakubu Dogara back - APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed excitement at the return of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, back to the ruling party.

Yekini Nabena, APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, expressed the feeling of the party while responding to the call by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for President Mohammadu Buhari to resign.

The opposition party said the APC administration has failed on account of its inability to address the two planks on which it sought and received the mandate of Nigerians.

However the APC spokesman said the PDP is ranting because of an impending massive defections that will hit the opposition party.

The party said the return of Dogara to the APC is prelude to other defections to the APC

The statement read: “The recent and unintelligible rants by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not unconnected to the impending mass defections set to hit the failed opposition party.

“The PDP calls for the resignation of the President. How silly! Nobody expects the PDP to provide ideas on good governance going by their inglorious past and antecedents. We only reiterate that the PDP stays quiet while the President Muhammadu Buhari administration clear the rot they foisted on the country.

“Nigeria deserves a vibrant, purposeful and credible opposition, not the laughing stock we have been subjected to in the name of the opposition PDP.

“It is well within the rights of PDP members to abandon a rudderless and sinking ship for the progressive fold. Going by the popular axiom: Why fly like a hen when you can soar like an Eagle?

“We are particularly gladdened by the return of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara to the APC.

“As we work collectively to achieve the Nigeria of our dreams, we will no doubt encounter challenges along the way. But one thing is sure. Under the focused and sincere leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, we are already delivering on key electoral promises of securing the nation, fighting corruption and improving the economy and livelihoods.”
